Northeast wartime history in a former police headquarters
Northeast Martyrs Memorial is at 241 Yiman Street in Nangang District. The building is the former Harbin Police Department headquarters under the Japanese-controlled state of Manchukuo and a nationally protected historic site. Established in 1948, the memorial focuses on martyrs from the Northeast Anti-Japanese War and the War of Liberation. The front main entrance is the visitor entrance.
Admission is free. Reserve through the official Northeast Martyrs Memorial WeChat account, or use the QR code at the entrance for on-site reservation. The current entry process requires an original ID card. Hours are Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–16:00, with entry stopping at 15:30, and Monday closure except statutory holidays. Public reservation information is mainly written for Chinese ID cards. Visitors using a foreign passport should confirm the reservation or on-site registration method with the memorial through an official channel before departure and carry the original passport.
A solemn, quiet visiting pace
The memorial is compact. A quick route takes about 1.5–2 hours through the first, second and third floors, covering the “Heroes of the Black Soil” basic exhibition and the Zhao Yiman Martyr Exhibition. With the free public talk at 10:00 or 14:00, allow about 2.5–3 hours.
It suits visitors who want to understand the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, martyrs and modern history, as well as student groups. Remove hats, do not bring drinks, dress neatly and keep quiet. Keep photography mainly to the exterior and necessary records; do not turn the visit into a staged photo stop.

The “Heroes of the Black Soil” basic exhibition
“Heroes of the Black Soil” is the main exhibition and follows the 14-year Northeast Anti-Japanese War and three-year War of Liberation through a historical sequence. Visitors unfamiliar with the background can read the timeline, people and object captions continuously in gallery order.
The emphasis is on historical evidence, individual experiences and context. Keep quiet, do not touch cases or stop in the centre of a gallery for photographs. If an area prohibits photography, follow the notice.
The Zhao Yiman Martyr Exhibition
The Zhao Yiman Martyr Exhibition focuses on her participation in the resistance in Harbin and the Northeast. Visitors interested in personal history can read it after the main exhibition; each floor has a different emphasis.
The former police headquarters
The entrance hall, walls and scale of the former headquarters help explain the historical setting of the memorial. See the interior together with the exhibits rather than only viewing the façade; open floors, interior areas and displays may vary by day.
The historical content is heavy. Adults accompanying minors should explain the nature of the site first. If a child is uncomfortable, shorten the indoor visit and reorganize the day outside instead of forcing every gallery.

1.5–2-hour quick route
Use the front entrance for reservation or QR-code registration, then follow the first-floor → second-floor → third-floor order. Start with “Heroes of the Black Soil,” continue to the Zhao Yiman Martyr Exhibition and finish with an exterior view of the old building before leaving towards the main entrance.
This route suits limited time and aims to read the main exhibition carefully rather than rush through every case. Entry stops at 15:30; late-afternoon visitors should complete the floors they can enter before photographing outside.
2.5–3-hour guided route
Arrive for the 10:00 or 14:00 free public talk and follow the guide from the first to third floors through “Heroes of the Black Soil” and the Zhao Yiman exhibition. After the talk, revisit details of the old building and any galleries still open, then leave through the main entrance.
Talk times and sessions follow the site. If no talk is running, visit in floor order. Reservation, entry and the public talk are separate steps; a successful reservation does not guarantee a talk session.
Connect with a Nangang cultural route
After the memorial, you can continue towards Harbin Confucian Temple, Jile Temple or Harbin Engineering University. Their tickets, documents, etiquette and opening hours are separate. The memorial itself supports a 2–3-hour visit, so keep enough reading time when adding another stop.

Metro
Take Metro Line 1 to Yida Yiyuan Station (医大一院站) and walk about 10 minutes to the front main entrance at 241 Yiman Street. Navigate to Northeast Martyrs Memorial rather than only to the nearby hospital or former-site name.
Bus
Bus routes 343, 348, 338 and 371 stop at Harbin Medical University First Hospital (哈医大一院站) or nearby stops. Walk towards 241 Yiman Street after getting off. Old-city roads and parking are limited, so public transport is more practical.

Use the front main entrance. The official-account reservation or entrance QR-code option may vary by day. After the visit, return towards the metro or bus stop; if you are joining the 10:00 or 14:00 talk, include the walk and reservation check before the start time.

Memorial etiquette and photography
Remove your hat, do not bring drinks, dress neatly and keep quiet. Follow gallery photography rules, switch off flash, do not photograph prohibited areas and do not pose noisily in front of cases. The exterior can be photographed, but do not block the entrance queue.
Avoid “check-in” language for a memorial. Explain the content and duration to minors or companions who may be emotionally affected. If someone needs to leave, follow staff directions rather than forcing the full route.
