Location and visit time
Anhui Museum (New Hall) is at 87 Huaining Road in Shushan District, Hefei. The South Gate is the main entrance, and the entrance area has a car park. Plan 3–4 hours for a full visit; 1.5–2 hours is enough if you focus on the key galleries.
Reference opening hours are Tuesday–Thursday, 09:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:30; Friday–Sunday, 09:00–18:00, with last admission at 17:30; and closed on Mondays except public holidays. Admission is free, but booking rules vary by date: on weekends and public holidays, book in advance with real-name registration through the Anhui Museum WeChat account, up to 7 days ahead. On non-holiday Tuesday–Friday, you can enter without a reservation, but you still need to go through security.

Anhui history and key objects
The Anhui Civilization Gallery on Floor 3 presents Anhui’s history in chronological sequence. Its main displays include the Zhuke Da Ding (铸客大鼎), E Jun Qi Jin Jie (鄂君启金节), the Tiger-and-Dragon Drum Stand (龙虎纹鼓座), and the Cloud-pattern Bronze Five-column Vessel (云纹铜五柱器). The Zhuke Da Ding weighs about 400 kilograms; E Jun Qi Jin Jie is a Warring States-era credential for water and land transport; the exact use of the Cloud-pattern Bronze Five-column Vessel is still open to discussion.
The Jianghuai Treasures gallery on Floor 5 focuses on decorative arts, calligraphy, and painting. Look for the Gold-mounted Agate Bowl (金扣玛瑙碗) and the Jingdezhen Yingqing-glazed ewer and bowl (景德镇窑影青釉注子注碗). The Wu King Guang Jian (吴王光鉴) is also worth noting for its form and its connection with storing or warming wine in ancient times.
Huizhou architecture and the temporary exhibition
The Huizhou Ancient Architecture gallery on Floor 4 reconstructs a Huizhou-style residence, with wood, brick, and stone carving details. The wood, brick, and stone carvings are especially rewarding for visitors interested in architecture and detail photography. The Tianwen temporary exhibition is currently scheduled to run through October 20, 2026; confirm the exhibition content and gallery arrangements for your visit date.
Choosing by interest
History-focused visitors can give priority to Floors 3 and 5; visitors interested in architecture can spend longer on Floor 4; families can add the temporary exhibition and a volunteer talk if the timing suits. The museum has scheduled volunteer talks, with the specific sessions depending on the day.
Build your day
A 1.5–2 hour highlights route
Enter through the South Gate and go first to the Anhui Civilization Gallery on Floor 3. Focus on the Zhuke Da Ding, E Jun Qi Jin Jie, the Tiger-and-Dragon Drum Stand, and the Cloud-pattern Bronze Five-column Vessel, then continue to the Jianghuai Treasures gallery on Floor 5 for the Gold-mounted Agate Bowl and other objects. This route is suited to a shorter visit centred on Anhui history and representative objects.
A 3–4 hour full route
Follow the building from Floor 2 to Floor 5: begin with the prehistoric civilization gallery, continue to the Anhui Civilization exhibition, then visit Huizhou Ancient Architecture, Jianghuai Treasures, the Xin’an School of Painting, and the Four Treasures of the Study. If you want to see Tianwen, allow separate time for it and follow the gallery access and opening arrangements on the day.
Guiding and pacing
On a first visit, give more time to the Floor 3 history galleries, the Floor 4 architecture gallery, and the subjects that interest you most. The gift shop and stamp points are mainly around the second-floor gift shop and the Anhui Museum Print Studio on Floor 3, so you can stop there midway through the visit or before leaving.
Get there
Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 3 or Line 4 to Provincial Museum Station (省博物院站), leave through Exit 1, and walk about 500 metres to the museum. Buses 113, 129, and 105 also serve the museum area.
Driving and parking
If driving, navigate to the South Gate of Anhui Museum (New Hall) and enter the car park from there. Parking is tight on weekends and public holidays, so the metro is usually easier; do not park by the roadside at the car-park entrance, where taxi queues can block the exit during busy periods.
Know before you go
Booking, queues, and luggage
Complete the real-name reservation in advance for weekends and public holidays. Even during a weekday no-reservation period, queues may form after 10:00 during busy seasons. Self-service lockers are near the security entrance, and large luggage can be left at the service desk.
Photography and guiding
Flash photography is not allowed for the museum objects, especially at darker display cases. Volunteer-talk schedules, temporary-exhibition content, and gallery access can change by day.
Food and museum planning
There is a simple restaurant on the first floor, including basic dishes such as pork-rib noodles. Outside the museum, options include nearby local restaurants, restaurants in MixC, and Luzhou Taitai; opening arrangements depend on the day. Anhui Museum (New Hall) is not in the same museum cluster as the Anhui Museum of Celebrities or the Memorial Hall of the Crossing-the-Yangtze Campaign, so those visits require separate transport. If you also want to visit the old museum, allow separate transport for Luyang Hall.
