How to Visit
1

Decide whether this optional walk fits your day

Magu Fairyland is an optional side route for travellers who enjoy streams and forest walking. Skip it if time is short, fitness is limited, or you want to focus only on Mount Hengshan's classic main route.

Tip:This is a quiet add-on, not a compulsory stop on a first visit.
2

Use Banshanting as the transfer point

Use Banshanting as the route anchor, then follow only the access path marked as open that day toward Magu Fairyland. Walking time changes with the available route and conditions.

Tip:Do not treat informal side paths as the normal approach.
3

Keep the visit as an out-and-back walk

Focus on the streamside setting, the Magu Birthday Sculpture (麻姑献寿), Jiangzhu Pavilion (绛珠亭), and Lingxi Waterfall Spring (灵溪瀑泉). This is best as an out-and-back walk rather than a long through-route.

Tip:Keep water and energy for the same route back to the transfer point.
4

Do not turn it into an improvised through-hike

Do not treat the continuing paths toward Yanshan Fairyland, Tianzhu Peak, or Yihou Academy as a standard through-hike. Without clear signs, enough time, and stable weather, return by the same route.

Tip:A safe daylight return is more important than extending the walk into unfamiliar forest terrain.
Highlights
  • A stream-and-forest setting along the Fanyin Ancient Trail.
  • Stone-paved mountain walking beneath tree cover.
  • Small stops combining streams, stone pavilions, and waterfall scenery.
  • Magu folklore gives the natural setting a cultural thread.
  • Limited commercial development and a quieter feel than the main route.
Insider Tips

Streamside steps and mossy surfaces can be slippery, so wear grippy walking shoes.

Bring insect repellent in summer, plus water and simple food; nearby supplies are limited.

Do not continue deeper into the forest in heavy rain, fog, poor visibility, or near nightfall.

Stay on clearly signed, open stone paths; avoid side trails and unmarked forks.

Plan this as an optional short mountain walk, not a compulsory long-distance traverse.
