Plan at a glance

Location and layout

Daqingshan Wildlife Park is at kilometer 1.5 of Huwu Road (呼武公路) in Huimin District (回民区), Hohhot. Enter through the south gate (南门). The park is divided across sloping terrain, with hills and steps between exhibits. It is separate from the alpine grasslands and Hadamen Forest Park, with its own entrance and ticketing.

How much time to allow

Allow about 2 to 3 hours to focus on the panda house and carnivore boardwalk. Set aside 4 to 5 hours if you also want to see the animals near the entrance, ride uphill, and visit several exhibits. Paths are hilly, so choose a shorter route if needed for your group’s fitness.

Choose an area by interest

The panda house, carnivore boardwalk, herbivore area, and small-animal zone near the entrance each offer something different. Check the map and opening notice first, then choose pandas, a boardwalk walk, or a family activity. Which animals are on view can change.

Tickets and visit details

View visit options for this attraction and confirm the visit date and current arrangements before you go.

Choose your visit

Panda house

The panda house (熊猫馆) is a separate indoor exhibit where you may see the giant pandas Xixi (茜茜) and Sa'er (仨儿). Whether they are visible or active depends on their condition and the keepers’ arrangements. Watch quietly, and do not tap the glass or use flash photography.

Carnivore area and elevated boardwalk

The boardwalk follows the hillside past viewing areas for carnivores. From behind safety barriers, you can watch tigers, lions, wolves, bears, and other animals, as well as look down over the slope. The route has many inclines and steps, so walk only part of it if needed. In the carnivore area, stay in the vehicle or on the boardwalk as instructed; never get out or cross a barrier.

Herbivores and interaction areas

Giraffes, deer, alpacas, and other small animals are in separate areas. Whether close-up interactions or feeding are allowed depends on on-site signs. Use only feed supplied by the park; do not feed pandas, carnivores, or animals without permission.

Waterbirds and other exhibits

Waterbird Lake (水禽湖) and other animal houses can be added according to the park map. In cold weather, some animals move indoors, and exhibit hours and locations may change. Check the day’s notice in winter rather than trying to visit every area based on a summer itinerary.

Shows and activities

Park ticket information has at times included a bird show, while a winter notice says shows and themed activities may change with the temperature. Check whether the bird show, night visit, feeding activities, and rental sightseeing carts are operating that day and whether they cost extra. Do not plan your arrival around an old event poster.

For a separate mountain grassland destination with different access and transport, see Chilechuan Alpine Grassland.

Build your day

The 2- to 3-hour short route

Enter through the south gate and confirm the uphill vehicle stops, last departure, and ticket type. Ride to an open area on the hill, visit the panda house, then walk part of the carnivore boardwalk before returning to the south gate from the designated stop. If uphill vehicles are not operating, visit open areas near the entrance; do not use closed roads.

The 4- to 5-hour full visit

Start in the small-animal or waterbird area near the entrance, then take a vehicle operating that day uphill. Choose among the panda house, carnivore viewing area, and herbivore zone. At each area, check the map and return stop, and leave time to get back to the south gate. Extend the boardwalk only if your group has the energy; you do not need to hike up and down the mountain.

A family-friendly slower route

Start with the exhibit the children most want to see, then plan a permitted feeding area and a rest stop. Stay within the safe viewing area in the carnivore zone and wash hands after animal interactions. Children must stay with an adult throughout; do not chase animals, hit them, or reach through barriers.

Get there

Navigation and parking

Navigate to “Daqingshan Wildlife Park South Gate” (大青山野生动物园南门) or kilometer 1.5 of Huwu Road, Huimin District, Hohhot. Follow signs to park at the entrance. Allow time for holiday queues; do not treat rides offered by local residents outside the park as official shuttles.

Bus and taxi

Check current bus routes to Daqingshan Wildlife Park stop (大青山野生动物园站) using Hohhot’s real-time transit information; route numbers and schedules can change. Before getting out of a taxi or ride-hail car, confirm the destination is the south-gate ticket entrance. Arrange a return ride at the entrance; do not assume cars can be hailed at every exhibit on the mountain.

Vehicles inside the park

The uphill sightseeing vehicle, walking paths, and self-service rental sightseeing carts serve different purposes. Before boarding or renting, check the service area, price, number of rides included, and last departure. If vehicles stop running or queues are long, shorten your route according to the map; do not assume every vehicle can take you anywhere in the park at any time.

Know before you go

Winter hours and admission

As of October 20, 2026, the park is operating on its winter schedule, effective October 15: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with ticket checks ending at 4 p.m. The published prices are RMB 35 for adults and RMB 17.50 for students. Cold weather may move some animals indoors and change activities; for future visits, check the official mini program or the park’s notice that day.

Ticket types and discounts

Adult ticket prices vary by season. Discounts depend on age, height, or document checks. When buying, confirm whether shows, rides, and animal interactions are included or cost extra.

Mountain weather and gear

The mountain is colder and windier than the city. Wear shoes with good grip and bring a warm layer and water. In rain, snow, ice, or strong winds, shorten the boardwalk route and avoid cliff edges and slippery paths as staff direct.

Animal welfare and departure

Stay on marked open routes; do not cross barriers, feed animals with food you brought, or tap the glass. Plan backward from the 4 p.m. last ticket check. Vehicles in individual areas may stop earlier, so confirm your return ride and the route to the south gate before leaving.
