How to Visit
1

Confirm your overall mountain direction first

Canglong Ridge sits on the route from North Peak toward Golden Lock Pass and the main peak cluster. The traditional way to experience it is usually uphill from North Peak.

Tip:If you come from West Peak or South Peak in the opposite direction, you may be routed onto an alternate path or follow on-site diversion.
2

Enter the ridge section gradually from North Peak

After North Peak, continue toward the main peaks and you will approach Canglong Ridge. The steps are steep, the path is narrow, and the drop on both sides is clear.

Tip:Crossing is easier when you still have enough energy, so avoid rushing it after you are already very tired.
3

Keep the pace of the line while crossing

When crowded, move with the flow, hold the railings or chains, and avoid standing for long in the middle of the steps.

Tip:Take photos only where you do not block movement, and let the narrow sections keep moving first.
4

Continue toward Golden Lock Pass after the ridge

After Canglong Ridge, the route leads toward Wuyun Peak and Golden Lock Pass, then branches toward Central, East, South, and West Peaks.

Tip:It works as a key transition route between North Peak and the main peak cluster, not as a small standalone stop.
5

Slow down during night hikes or after rain

At night, visibility is limited; after rain or snow, steps and handrails can be slippery. Use lighting, non-slip shoes, and warm layers.

Tip:Follow staff guidance if there is crowd control or route diversion.
Highlights
  • One of the most recognizable ridge sections between North Peak and the main peak area.
  • The narrow ridge and valley drops clearly show Huashan's steep terrain.
  • Repairs, railings, and alternate paths have made passage more stable than in the past.
  • The story of Han Yu's letter adds a cultural layer to the route.
  • After crossing Canglong Ridge, Golden Lock Pass marks the transition into the branching routes for the main peaks.
Insider Tips

Canglong Ridge has no separate ticket and does not require a reservation like the Plank Walk, but crowd control may affect passage.

The west-up, north-down route saves energy, but may not let you experience the main ridge in the traditional uphill direction.

On holidays and after sunrise, crowds can slow the narrow sections, so allow extra time.

After rain or snow, do not rely on the railings to move quickly; non-slip shoes and slower steps matter more.

With older travelers or children, choose the next route based on their real energy level, not only the planned peak list.
