Plan at a glance

Old-town location and opening pattern

Shuidong Street sits beside the Dong River in Huicheng District, opposite Hejiang Tower. It is a roughly 700-metre arcade street that works best in the late afternoon and evening. The district is free and open all day; shops and food stalls generally begin operating after 10:00 and become livelier after 19:00.

The main entrance near Hejiang Tower and the entrance near Seafood Street are the most useful access points. Treat it as an old-town walking and dinner stop rather than a single attraction requiring advance planning.

How to fit it into your day

Allow around two hours to walk the main street, see the arcades and eat local snacks. If you add Dongpo Temple, Dongjiangsha Park, Hejiang Tower and evening river views, reserve half a day to a full evening.

Choose your visit

Two-hour evening visit

Hejiang Tower → main street of Shuidong Street → riverside walk. Start with the tower or its surrounding square for river views, then enter the arcade street for snacks and small shops before walking by the river.

First-visit late-afternoon route

Visit Dongpo Temple in the morning, reach Dongjiangsha Park around 17:00 for sunset, visit Hejiang Tower around 16:30–18:00, then continue to Shuidong Street for dinner and night views. You can continue to Yedao Cultural Life Community afterwards.

Easy night route

Dongjiangsha Park at sunset → Hejiang Tower night view → Shuidong Street supper → riverside promenade. This suits visitors who prefer an easy evening focused on the old town rather than several indoor sites.

Build your day

Street route

Enter from the Hejiang Tower side, walk the main street to see the arcades, red lanterns and older façades, then choose snacks in the night-market area before returning to the river. The district is compact but has many side lanes, so leave time to wander rather than rushing through it.

Heritage and sunset route

Dongpo Temple → Dongjiangsha Park → Hejiang Tower → Shuidong Street → Yedao Cultural Life Community. Putting the park and tower in the late afternoon lets Shuidong Street lead naturally into dinner.

Quieter photography route

Visit the arcade streets on a weekday morning or early afternoon for architectural photographs, then return at night for food. This separates the quieter visual side of the street from its busier evening activity.

Get there

Rail and city travel

From Huizhou Station or West Lake East Station, the street is usually about a 10-minute drive away. Shared e-bikes can be convenient within the city, but take care around pedestrian areas and uneven pavement.

Driving and parking

The parking area under the bridge charges about CNY 5 for three hours, and Hejiang Tower Parking Lot is another option. Parking around the main street is limited on holidays, so it is more practical to park outside the core and walk or ride in.

Know before you go

Walking and accessibility

Old stone paving and uneven ground make the street less convenient for pushchairs or wheelchairs, so wear trainers or other comfortable shoes. The night-market area can have oil and litter underfoot; carry tissues and pay attention to the ground.

Timing and food

After 19:00, food stalls and shops are more active, but crowds are also larger. In low season or on weekday nights, some side streets may be quiet with fewer open businesses. Use Shuidong Street as a dinner and evening-walk stop, with Hejiang Tower, Dongjiangsha Park and the riverfront as easy additions.
