Location, entry and opening hours
The Su Dongpo Memorial Hall is on Gushan Hill in West Lake, near Sizhou Tower and Chaoyun Tomb. Enter West Lake from Pinghu Gate and follow Su Causeway to reach it.
Admission is free, with entry by QR code or ID card and no reservation required. Opening hours are 9:00–17:30, with last entry at 17:00. The hall is closed on Mondays except public holidays.

West Lake heritage route
West Lake East Station → Pinghu Gate → Su Causeway → Sizhou Tower → Nine-Bend Bridge → Su Dongpo Memorial Hall → Chaoyun Tomb → Fengzhu Garden → Zhuwu Alley → Hejiang Tower. This places the museum midway through the lake walk and keeps the pace balanced.
Slow cultural route
Start at Fenghu Academy and Zhun Ti Temple, then spend more time with the Memorial Hall exhibition before continuing towards Dongpo Temple across the river and Shuidong Street. This is best for visitors who want to understand Su Dongpo’s life in Huizhou rather than simply cover landmarks.

Begin with the exhibition on Su Dongpo’s years in Huizhou, including his daily life, public works such as bridges and wells, and the context for his poetry. Then use the interactive screens for poetry animation and family activities. The hall displays around 300 related artefacts and materials, so it rewards a slower, themed visit.
Outdoor heritage stop
Walk from the hall to Chaoyun Tomb and Liuru Pavilion for a quieter stop on Gushan Hill. If you carry a notebook, ask about the commemorative stamps at the service desk near the entrance.
Connecting with West Lake
Approach from Su Causeway, then continue to Fengzhu Garden or Sizhou Tower after your visit. This avoids a separate return trip and places the indoor exhibition during the warmer part of the day.
Get there
Public transport and walking
Take Guangdong Intercity Rail to West Lake East Station Exit C, walk to Pinghu Gate, then follow Su Causeway to Gushan Hill. City buses serving West Lake East Gate or Pinghu Gate use the same final walking route.
Driving
Park at Fengzhu Garden or West Lake Grand Theatre, then walk into West Lake. The area around the main gate is more prone to congestion, so parking first and approaching along the lakeside is usually smoother.
Know before you go
Avoid Monday visits
The hall is normally closed on Mondays, so do not schedule the interior visit for that day. On open days, volunteer talks are offered around 9:00–10:00 and 15:30–16:30; arriving near those times can add useful context.
Visiting and photography
The hall and Gushan Hill are quiet places that suit an unhurried visit. Summer lake walks require sun protection and mosquito repellent; comfortable shoes are useful. The brickwork, old trees and lake setting work well for understated or modern Chinese-style clothing.
