Location, entrances and opening pattern
Huizhou West Lake is in the Huicheng District area around Huancheng West Road. It works well for a city walk combining gardens, historic towers and old-town riverside views. Pinghu Gate is the usual main entrance; drivers can use the quieter Xiaobei Gate, while Fengzhu Garden is a convenient starting point during the lotus season.
The main West Lake area is free and does not require a reservation. It is generally open from about 8:00 to 22:00, although some exhibition venues close around 17:00. Sizhou Tower costs CNY 10 to enter, and Fengzhu Garden costs CNY 20; the lakeside walk remains worthwhile without entering either paid site.
How to fit it into your day
Allow around two hours for the main lake walk. First-time visitors should reserve four to six hours to combine Su Causeway, Sizhou Tower, the Su Dongpo Memorial Hall, Fengzhu Garden and the old town at dusk. If you prefer less walking, combine a boat ride with the riverside promenade for a gentler visit of about three hours.

Two-hour lake route
This suits visitors with limited time or those who mainly want the West Lake landmarks. Enter from Xiaobei Gate, continue via Yanyan Bridge and Nine-Bend Bridge, view Sizhou Tower from the lake edge, then leave through Pinghu Gate. Yanyan Bridge is useful for framed views, while Nine-Bend Bridge and the lake edge are good places to photograph the tower reflection.
Half-day or full-day city heritage route
Start from West Lake East Station or Pinghu Gate, then follow Su Causeway, Sizhou Tower, Nine-Bend Bridge, Diancui Islet and the Su Dongpo Memorial Hall before moving on to Fengzhu Garden. Have dinner in Zhuwu Alley in the evening, then continue through Chaojing Gate to Hejiang Tower for the two-river night view.
Boat and evening option
If you do not want a long walk, have lunch in Zhuwu Alley, take a boat from the North Gate Pier, then continue along the riverside promenade to Hejiang Tower and Shuidong Street. Boat routes and paddling areas are limited, so plan your return around the pier arrangement.

Xiaobei Gate → Yanyan Bridge → Nine-Bend Bridge → lakeside view of Sizhou Tower → Pinghu Gate. This route focuses on the lake, stone bridges and the historic tower, and takes about two hours on foot.
First-visit route
West Lake East Station → Pinghu Gate → Su Causeway → Sizhou Tower → Nine-Bend Bridge → Diancui Islet → Su Dongpo Memorial Hall → Fengzhu Garden → Zhuwu Alley → Chaojing Gate → Hejiang Tower. Keep gardens and exhibition venues for daylight, then finish at Hejiang Tower after sunset.
Easy waterside route
Lunch in Zhuwu Alley → boat from North Gate Pier → views of Sizhou Tower and Su Causeway from the lake → riverside promenade → Hejiang Tower → Shuidong Street. This works well for visitors who want to reduce continuous walking and focus on the lake and old-town evening.

Intercity rail, buses and walking
Take Guangdong Intercity Rail to West Lake East Station and leave from Exit C; Pinghu Gate is about a five-minute walk away. Several city bus routes stop near West Lake East Gate or Pinghu Gate, making this an easy city-centre stop.
Driving and parking
The temporary parking area at Goose City Grand Theatre charges CNY 5 for up to four hours and CNY 15 for eight to 24 hours. During holidays, the temporary parking area opposite Fengzhu Garden is another option. Popular West Lake entrances have limited parking on busy days, so parking once and walking in is usually faster.

Walking, weather and crowds
The lakeside routes can be long, so comfortable walking shoes are more useful than photo-only footwear. Nine-Bend Bridge and other open sections have strong sun exposure, while shaded lake areas can have mosquitoes in summer. Arrive early or use public transport during holidays to avoid waiting for parking near the North Gate.
Turning it into a full day
Sizhou Tower is well placed for late-afternoon reflections, and Fengzhu Garden is worth extra time during the summer lotus season. Hejiang Tower and Shuidong Street fit naturally after dusk. Plan meals for Zhuwu Alley or Shuidong Street rather than spending too much of the day at the entrances.
