Plan at a glance
Choose a specific stretch of coast
Dongdaihe is a coastal resort area in Suizhong County, Huludao, made up of multiple beaches, residential communities and seaside spots. There is no single main gate or area-wide ticket. After booking accommodation, set your navigation to its exact address or to a beach entrance that visitors may use; searching for “Dongdaihe” alone can send you to the wrong section.
Zhimao Bay (止锚湾) is one of the best-known coastal spots in Dongdaihe. Beach access, parking and facilities vary by location, so check the specific entrance and any visitor restrictions before you go.
Allow half a day to a full day
Set aside half a day to a full day for a walk, time on the sand or photos along one stretch of coast. If you stay by the sea, you can go out in the morning and evening. Plan tidal-flat walks around that day's tides and the areas where access is allowed.

Choose your visit
Zhimao Bay and tidal flats
The Zhimao Bay area is known for its beach and seaside activities. At low tide, parts of the intertidal flats are exposed; explore only where access is allowed. Tides change daily, so check local notices before walking onto the flats.
These activities suit families looking for an easy walk near their accommodation. With children, choose a bathing beach with on-site management and lifeguard guidance. A gently sloping beach does not mean swimming is safe that day.
Blue Moon Beach and photo spots
Blue Moon Beach is located near the Shanhai Tongwan (山海同湾) residential community. Some travel accounts mention seaside swings and other photo installations, but these may change. The beach is not necessarily open to non-residents, so check the community's visitor rules before making a trip specifically for the photo spots.
When the area is open, combine photos with a walk along the shore. Do not enter fenced areas or closed sections of shore, and keep off the rocks.
Jieshi culture and heritage access
The Dongdaihe area has archaeological sites connected with Qin and Han coastal activity, including Jieshi Palace. Access to these sites depends on the day's arrangements. If there is no public entrance, keep your coastal outing to beaches open to visitors. Jiumenkou Water Great Wall (九门口水上长城) has a separate entrance and ticket and is not part of Dongdaihe's beach area.
Build your day
Half-day coastal walk
Choose an accessible beach and a parking or drop-off point. Walk along the open shore, spend time on the sand or take photos. Check the day's tide and access rules before gathering shellfish or exploring the flats, then return to your entrance. Do not assume you can walk between residential communities along the coast.
A full day by the sea
After arriving at the beach, choose a stretch that is open and follow the swimming notices. Return to your accommodation or go to an open restaurant for lunch, then take a walk or rest in the afternoon before returning to your original entrance. Choose among tidal-flat walks, swimming or a speedboat according to sea conditions; if wind or waves pick up, stay on shore or end the activity early.
Two days and one night, with a Jiumenkou transfer
For a two-day, one-night stay, arrive and walk along the beach near your accommodation on the first day. Choose another coastal activity on the second day, then return to the station or continue your trip. If you add Jiumenkou Water Great Wall, allow separate time for travel and sightseeing; it is not a beach-side walking stop.
Get there
Railway stations and the last leg
Check the station on your train ticket. Dongdaihe Station has fewer services, and schedules may vary by season. Shanhaiguan Station usually has more train options, but it is in Qinhuangdao, Hebei. Contact your accommodation in advance to arrange a transfer from the station to your specific entrance.
Driving, parking and buses
For driving, navigate to your exact accommodation address or the beach parking lot. Check community vehicle access, parking availability and fees in advance. Parking lots serve different sections; follow the community manager's instructions if a gate or road arrangement changes.
There is no consistent last-leg shuttle service across the whole coast. Confirm the bus route, service times and stop for your specific area before buying a ticket; you can also ask your accommodation about a pickup.
Arrange your return pickup
Before setting out, arrange where and when you will be picked up to return to your accommodation or station, and check the last public transport service. Match your return plan to the station on your ticket. Arrange nighttime transport in advance rather than relying on finding a taxi at the last minute.
Know before you go
Tickets, beaches and water activities
Different operators provide beach access, water recreation and trips at sea; there is no single cruise service covering the whole area. Speedboats and similar activities are optional, not a fixed part of the itinerary. Public shorelines, bathing facilities, community beaches and accommodation amenities may be managed separately. Before paying or entering a community, check who may enter, any fees, hours and cancellation terms.
Tides, swimming and nighttime activities
Check the day's tide and shoreline notices before a tidal-flat walk. Swim only in areas where the open bathing beach allows it. Sea conditions, water quality and lifeguard services can change. This itinerary does not include nighttime wading, fireworks or regularly scheduled night shows.
Accommodation, food and on-site prices
Before booking, confirm parking, community gate access and beach access; a sea-view room does not necessarily include access to a nearby beach, private shoreline or designated swimming area. Before seafood is prepared, check the species, size, weight, unit price and preparation fee, and keep the bill. Fishing-boat landings and market supply times vary. Pay for parking, water activities and meals at the posted on-site rates.
