Plan at a glance

Confirm the entrance

The scenic area is in Laodazhangzi Township, Jianchang County, Huludao. Set your navigation to “龙潭大峡谷自然风景区游客中心” (Longtan Grand Canyon Natural Scenic Area Visitor Center). This is a mountain-valley destination, far from Xingcheng and the city's seaside area, so it does not work well as a last-minute stop on a beach itinerary.

A regular visit takes about 3 hours; allow around 4 hours if you want to walk more of the stone steps and spend longer at viewpoints. Queues and ride availability can change the timing. Do not start the full route close to the last admission time.

Tickets and visit details

View visit options for this attraction and confirm the visit date and current arrangements before you go.

Choose your visit

Gorge formations and two boat rides

The gorge has unusual rock formations, stone forests, pools and waterfalls. A common route includes two boat rides and walks. Check the route map at the visitor center for the boat sections and boarding points; water levels, weather and temporary management changes can alter the arrangement.

This visit suits travelers comfortable with steps and interested in mountain and water scenery. The boat and trail offer different views. Queue for boats as directed, and do not cross barriers or enter closed areas beside the water.

Longtan Waterfall

Longtan Waterfall is a highlight of the gorge scenery, and common routes include a waterfall viewpoint. Water flow varies by season and weather. Heavy rain, flash-flood risk or a temporary closure may change the viewing area or boat service.

Glass suspension bridge and dry slide (旱滑道)

The glass suspension bridge and dry slide ride may require separate tickets. They suit visitors looking for a height or sliding experience. Check on-site rules for height, age, health and footwear requirements. The trail has steps and elevation changes; if traveling with young children or someone with limited mobility, ask first which sections are accessible.

If you skip the dry slide, ask staff whether a stone-step alternative is open and where it reconnects with the main route. Do not take an unmarked path downhill without clear directions.

Build your day

About 3 hours on the main route

Starting at the visitor center, a common reference order is: first boat ride → gorge trail and rock viewpoints → glass suspension bridge, dry slide or designated stone-step route, depending on what is open that day → second boat ride and waterfall viewpoint → transport to the exit → shuttle back to the visitor center. Check the route map for connections between sections and boat boarding points. If an activity is suspended, ask how to detour and return to the visitor center before entering a one-way section. The glass suspension bridge, dry slide and sightseeing train operate only if listed in that day's notices. A regular visit takes about 3 hours; allow around 4 if you plan to stop at more viewpoints.

About 4 hours on the stone-step route

If you want to use the stone-step trail instead of the dry slide, confirm before entering that section whether the trail is open, which boat landing or exit it leads to, and whether it reconnects with the main route. If staff cannot confirm a clear connection, do not enter the side path; continue or turn back along the designated open route.

Leave the gorge and return to the parking area

After the gorge visit, leave by an exit route that is open that day. If the sightseeing train is running, follow its route to the exit, then take the scenic area's shuttle back to the visitor-center parking area. If the train is suspended or you choose not to ride, first confirm which alternative trail is open, which exit it reaches and how to return to the parking lot. Do not use unmarked roads.

Get there

Driving and mountain roads

Drive to “龙潭大峡谷自然风景区游客中心” (Longtan Grand Canyon Natural Scenic Area Visitor Center) and follow road signs and current conditions. The approach includes winding mountain roads and narrow bends; slow down and avoid driving them in rain, fog or after dark. Jianchang County town or Gangou can serve as area references. If navigation suggests a rural road, follow current road conditions and signs. If combining this visit with Dongdaihe Coastal Resort Area, allow time for a separate transfer; the two destinations have different entrances.

Public transport and return trip

If you are not driving, arrange a licensed local car service with your accommodation or a local operator before departure. Confirm the outbound and return rides, pickup point and latest pickup time; arrange transport in advance for this remote area.

Parking and supplies in the county town

Check the visitor center's notices for parking location, fees and overnight rules. The scenic area has food and lodging, but contact providers ahead of time about opening and availability. You can also return to Jianchang County town to eat; Jinshui Lou stone-ground tofu is one option to look up.

Know before you go

Check admission and activity tickets separately

The admission ticket, boat rides, shuttle, glass suspension bridge, dry slide and sightseeing train may be sold separately. When buying, check which activities a bundle includes, whether it covers both boat sections, and what detours or refunds apply if a service is suspended.

Closing times, footwear and fitness

Check opening hours, last admission, ride suspensions and the time visitors must leave as separate details, using that day's scenic-area notices. Arrive early and leave enough time for boats, walking and the return shuttle. Trails have steps and may be slippery after rain. Wear shoes with good grip, bring water and a light jacket, keep children close, and stay away from deep pools and cliff faces.

Do not treat “Little Guilin of Western Liaoning” as a stop on the route

“Little Guilin of Western Liaoning” is sometimes mentioned as a nearby viewpoint, but its exact location, parking and safe pedestrian entrance are unclear. It is not treated here as an in-park attraction or a regular stop on the way. Do not stop on a highway shoulder or beside a traffic lane to take photos. Consider a separate visit only after locating a legal parking area and an open entrance.
