Location and entry
Fucheng Jade Emperor Temple, also known as the Jade Emperor Temple Museum of Painted Sculptures and Murals, is in Fucheng Village, Jincun Town, Zezhou County, Jincheng. The First Mountain Gate is the main entrance. From there, the visit follows the central axis through the front, middle, and rear courtyards; allow about 1–2 hours.
This is a reservation-based historic-building site. The main sights are spread across the Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions, Jade Emperor Hall, Chengtang Hall, and the courtyards. Some halls may rotate in and out of the open route, so include the halls open that day and the queue order in your plan.
Reservation and timing
Admission is free, but advance real-name online reservation is required. Reservations can be made through the Jincheng Museum (晋城博物馆) or Fengya Jincheng (风雅晋城) WeChat accounts; during holidays, about three days' advance booking is advisable. Opening hours are 09:00–17:00, with entry stopping at 16:00. The site is closed on Mondays except public holidays.
The Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions may limit visitor numbers and the time allowed inside in busy seasons. The Hall of the Twelve Earthly Branches, Hall of the Four Saints, and Hall of the Three Enclosures may also open by time period. A successful reservation does not mean every courtyard will be open together; follow the day's notice after entering.

The Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions and painted sculptures
The Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions in the rear courtyard is the main stop. Its Yuan-dynasty sculptures depict the twenty-eight stellar deities alongside animals, with distinct expressions, clothing, and poses. Visitors interested in historic sculpture, Daoist art, or the filming locations associated with “Black Myth: Wukong” should give this hall a substantial part of the visit.
Jade Emperor Hall preserves a Northern Song building and contains painted sculptures from the Song and Jin periods, together with Jin-dynasty murals of the Heng and Ha generals. The building dates, sculptures, and guardian murals form a useful rear-courtyard sequence. Light inside the halls is dim, so viewing and photography follow the permitted arrangements.
The front and middle courtyards
The peacock-blue glazed ridge ornaments on the First Mountain Gate, Qixing Pavilion, Wenchang Hall, and Wealth God Hall are the main front-courtyard sights. In the middle courtyard, Chengtang Hall contains a three-level Jin-dynasty wooden shrine, worth a close look for anyone interested in timber structures and small-scale wood carving. The Medicine King Hall, Three Kings Hall, and other courtyards open according to the rotation for the day.
Visitors making a deeper heritage visit can move from the front-courtyard buildings to the middle-courtyard shrine and then the rear-courtyard sculptures. With limited time, prioritize the First Mountain Gate, Chengtang Hall, Jade Emperor Hall, and the Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions. Glazed ridges, the wooden shrine, and the sculptures are the main photographic details; do not move barriers or approach the sculptures for a better angle.

About 1 hour: short route
Enter through the First Mountain Gate and make a quick circuit of the front and middle courtyards. In the rear courtyard, see Jade Emperor Hall first, then enter the Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions according to the queue. Return the way you came. This route keeps the Northern Song building, Jin mural details, and Yuan stellar sculptures in the visit; if a hall is closed, use the open areas shown on site.
The Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions may limit numbers and each visitor's time. Check the queue and exit direction before entering. If your reservation is close to the 16:00 entry cut-off, place the rear-courtyard queue earlier because the cut-off does not extend for people still waiting.
About 1.5–2 hours: highlights route
Start in the front courtyard with the peacock-blue glazed ridge, Qixing Pavilion, Wenchang Hall, and Wealth God Hall. Continue through the middle courtyard to Chengtang Hall's wooden shrine and, if open, the Medicine King Hall or Three Kings Hall. In the rear courtyard, visit Jade Emperor Hall and finish at the Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions. Pause in each courtyard according to the open signs and crowd.
Some halls may rotate. If one is closed that day, visit the other open areas first. When the Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions is controlling entry, see the other halls and return when staff call your number. After leaving, Fucheng Guan Yu Temple is about a 10-minute walk away, while Xiaonancun Erxian Temple is about a 10-minute drive; both are separate stops.
Get there
Driving and parking
Navigate to “Zezhou Jade Emperor Temple.” The site has a free car park. After parking, enter through the First Mountain Gate; the courtyards are visited on foot and vehicles do not enter the central route.
Jade Emperor Temple is in Fucheng Village, where drivers should follow the local traffic directions. If you are adding nearby historic sites, place the reservation slot and the 16:00 entry cut-off first, then decide whether to continue to Fucheng Guan Yu Temple or Xiaonancun Erxian Temple.
Public transport
As of September 2026, Jade Emperor Temple has no direct service among the 25 tourist lines published from Jincheng Coach East Station. City buses can reach the area around the “Taiyuan University of Science and Technology Jincheng Campus” stop; check the route number, schedule, and stop in the bus notice for the day. Driving to “Zezhou Jade Emperor Temple” is more direct, and the return follows the day's roads and buses.
You do not need a car to complete the visit, but fit the reservation slot, walking section, and return bus into the same plan. There is no shared scenic-area shuttle to the other historic sites, so use their own transport arrangements.
Know before you go
Reservations, queues, and photography
The free reservation uses real-name registration, and during holidays it can be submitted about three days in advance. The site is closed on Mondays, with entry stopping at 16:00. The Hall of the Twenty-Eight Mansions may limit the number of visitors entering at one time; in busy seasons, waiting time and the time allowed inside follow the on-site arrangement.
Do not use flash or a tripod inside the halls, and do not touch the painted sculptures. Photography angles, lighting, and equipment follow staff instructions. Rotating access to the halls may affect the complete route; do not enter a hall that is not open.
Supplies and guiding
Restaurants near Jade Emperor Temple are limited. Bring a small amount of water and food, or drive about 15 minutes to an area with more dining. Dami fried pork, Jincheng fried pork, and vinegar-braised meatballs are local options near the temple or back in the city; food is separate from the admission reservation.
There is a lot of information in the painted sculptures, wood carving, and courtyard dates, so ask about guiding on site if you want more context. Guiding does not change the hall rotation or visitor limits. The visit is on foot, so wear comfortable shoes and stay with the queue during your reserved slot.
