Huangcheng Chancellor's Residence is in Huangcheng Village, Beiliu Town, Yangcheng County, Jincheng. Its main front entrance is at Yushulou Square. From the Visitor Centre, visitors usually take a scenic-area shuttle to Huangcheng Chancellor's Residence. The fare, stops, and last departure follow the ticket and the scenic area's notice for that day. Yushulou Square and the North Gate serve different entry routes, so follow the open gate and visitor directions shown after you buy your ticket.
Tickets and timing
The single-site ticket is RMB 120 per person in the high season, from April 1 to October 31, and RMB 100 in the low season, from November 1 to March 31. A joint ticket for Huangcheng Chancellor's Residence, Guoyu Ancient City, and Haihui Academy is roughly RMB 130–150 per person. It usually includes a shuttle between the attractions and may allow repeat entry over three days; check the ticket terms for the day of your visit.
The high-season hours are 08:00–18:00, with entry stopping at 17:00. In the low season, hours are 08:00–17:00, with entry stopping at 16:30. Allow about 1.5–3 hours for Huangcheng Chancellor's Residence alone. If you add Guoyu or Haihui Temple, plan around each site's own closing time and return transport.

Official residences, towers, and tunnels
Yushulou, the Zhongzai Zongxian Stele Archway, and the Daxueshi Residence form the main line through the official residences. They suit first-time visitors to Jincheng and anyone interested in Qing-era official households and family history. Yushulou preserves the Kangxi Emperor's inscription “Wuting Shancun,” while the stele archway records the Chen family's background of nine jinshi degree holders from one household.
He Shan Tower is about 30 metres high and was built as a Ming-era defensive tower; it gives a view over the old fortress. The Hidden-Soldier Cave lies below the city wall and connects with the defensive structures. From Xiaojie Courtyard, you can join the wall walk and look down over the courtyards and surrounding terrain. Stone paving, walls, and steps add to the walking load.
Performances and guiding
“Welcoming the Emperor's Visit” is themed around the Kangxi Emperor's visit, with common high-season showings around 09:30 and 15:00. “Back to the Chancellor's Residence” is a summer night production that often starts around 20:00 and costs about RMB 198 per person as a separate ticket. Both schedules depend on the programme for the day. Choose them around your interests rather than cutting the building visit short to catch a show.
The main appeal is the relationship between the buildings and the stories of the Chen family. A private guide costs about RMB 150 per visit, while a guide device may cost around RMB 10. Families can focus on He Shan Tower and the Hidden-Soldier Cave; photographers and architecture enthusiasts can add the city wall, Yushulou, and the stele archway.

About 1.5 hours: short route
Follow Yushulou Square → Zhongzai Zongxian Stele Archway → Daxueshi Residence (Chancellor's Residence) → He Shan Tower → Hidden-Soldier Cave → exit. This route concentrates on the official residences, the highest defensive tower, and the tunnel. It works for a short visit or for a day that also includes Guoyu Ancient City or Haihui Temple.
The time spent climbing He Shan Tower and inside the Hidden-Soldier Cave depends on the crowd. After leaving, decide whether to continue to the next stop. If you enter and leave through the North Gate car park, follow the day's signs back toward the North Gate. The joint-ticket shuttle mainly connects the attractions; inside the residence, continue on foot along the marked route.
About 2.5–3 hours: highlights route
From the Visitor Centre, take the scenic-area shuttle to Yushulou Square. Visit Yushulou, the stele archway, and the Daxueshi Residence, then go to Xiaojie Courtyard and climb onto the city wall. Walk along the wall for a view over the fortress before continuing to He Shan Tower and the Hidden-Soldier Cave. If time allows, add the China Dictionary Museum and the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, then leave through the exit.
If you plan to see “Welcoming the Emperor's Visit,” arrive about 15 minutes before the time shown on the programme. “Back to the Chancellor's Residence” needs its own return plan after the night show. If you continue to Guoyu or Haihui Temple with a three-site ticket, treat them as separate stops on the same day or as visits spread over the ticket's three-day validity, using each site's own entrance and route.

High-speed rail and tourist bus
From Jincheng Coach East Station, take Tourist Line 1 to Huangcheng Chancellor's Residence. The current unified fare is RMB 1. Check the departure time, stops, and return service in the bus notice for the day. Mountain roads and weather can affect the service, so arrange the return before setting out.
For the return, use the sightseeing-vehicle waiting area outside the North Ticket Gate and follow the scenic area's shuttle and tourist-bus notices for the day back to Jincheng Coach East Station. If you need to catch a train, check the day's service and road conditions before deciding whether Huangcheng Chancellor's Residence should be your final stop.
Driving and parking
