Entrance, tickets and size
Ming and Qing Palaces Scenic Area is in Hengdian Town, Dongyang, Jinhua, Zhejiang. It is an independent theme park with its own ticket and entrance checks. The usual entrance is Daming Gate, Gate 1. Reference opening hours are 08:00–17:00, but holiday and seasonal arrangements can change, so check the day’s notice before setting out.
The park covers about 1,500 mu and usually takes 3–4 hours. Allow at least half a day if you want to look around the palaces, take photographs and wait for on-site activities. A Hengdian multi-park pass may include Ming and Qing Palaces, but confirm the ticket type, number of entries and usable scope for that day one by one.
Who it suits
This park suits visitors interested in Ming and Qing palace architecture, historical film and television settings and traditional-costume photography. It also suits families who are willing to spend half a day in one large park. If anyone in your group cannot walk long distances, first judge whether they can complete the main axis before adding another Hengdian park.

Meridian Gate, Hall of Supreme Harmony and the Imperial Garden
Meridian Gate, the Hall of Supreme Harmony square and the red walls and covered corridors form the clearest architectural route through the park. Walk along the central axis to see the gates and square first, then enter the palace courtyards. When taking photographs, respect the boundaries of public routes.
The Imperial Garden area may host character interactions or themed activities, whose content and participation arrangements change from day to day. Visitors mainly interested in palace architecture can focus on the buildings instead of changing the whole route to wait for an interaction.
What type of stay works
If you mainly want the key buildings and photographs, complete the Daming Gate–Meridian Gate–Hall of Supreme Harmony–Imperial Garden line and then leave. Visitors who prefer a slower visit can add the Palace of Concentrated Beauty, the martial training ground and other areas, but should expect a large park and substantial walking.
Ming and Qing Palaces is reasonably suitable for families, but its size and exposure to the sun increase fatigue. With young children or older adults, schedule indoor or shaded breaks and include the walk back to the entrance in your timing.
Build your day
A 3–4 hour central-axis route
Enter through Daming Gate and first visit Meridian Gate and the Hall of Supreme Harmony square. Then follow the day’s open route toward Xihua Gate, the martial training ground and the Imperial Garden before leaving through the exit. Performances and the accessible palace areas may change, so keep room to replace one stop with another.
If you are also visiting Guangzhou Street and Hong Kong Street Scenic Area, complete the daytime buildings here first, then transfer according to the next park’s opening time. The two parks have separate ticket checks; reconfirm the ticket and entrance before transferring instead of estimating only from the map distance.
A fuller half-day route
With enough time, connect Meridian Gate, the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Imperial Garden, the Palace of Concentrated Beauty and the martial training ground, then return to the main square for photographs. The park is large, so follow a clear direction and avoid repeated backtracking between palaces to find missed points.
Whether an official sightseeing vehicle or rental service is available depends on the day’s arrangements. If someone in your group needs to reduce walking, ask about the official transport options and their stopping areas when you enter, then plan around what is actually available. Do not rely on vehicles soliciting passengers privately.
Connecting with Guangzhou Street and Hong Kong Street
Ming and Qing Palaces and Guangzhou Street and Hong Kong Street are relatively close and can be combined as a daytime-plus-evening plan. Ming and Qing Palaces is mainly a daytime architectural visit, while Guangzhou Street and Hong Kong Street usually opens in the afternoon. Leave time for a meal, a break and a new ticket check during the transfer.
If Ming and Qing Palaces has already used up much of your group’s energy, limit the second park to its streetscapes and lighting areas. Check the later park’s programme, filming activity and outdoor attractions on site rather than assuming they will all be open.
Get there
High-speed rail, light rail and transport within Hengdian
From Yiwu Station, reaching Hengdian by bus transfer or taxi usually takes about one hour. From Jinhua Station or Jinhua South Station, take light rail to Ming and Qing Palace Station, then transfer to a bus or taxi. Once in Hengdian, set the destination as “Ming and Qing Palaces, Daming Gate” rather than entering only the park’s short name.
If you are transferring from Guangzhou Street and Hong Kong Street or another Hengdian park, choose a ride-hailing car or an officially available shuttle according to the day’s open roads. With large luggage, include the walking distance from the drop-off point to Daming Gate.
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to the Daming Gate parking area and walk into the park. Holiday parking spaces and roads around the entrance can be tight, so note where the car is parked before deciding whether to continue to another park.
Because the park is large, parking at the entrance does not make internal movement easy. Before leaving, estimate the distance from your final area back to the exit, then plan the route from the car to your accommodation or next park.
Know before you go
Programmes and on-site access
Horse battles, palace-themed performances, character interactions and filming-related activities may change with weather, season and operations. Do not build the day around an old programme. Check the day’s notice after entry before deciding whether to wait for an activity.
Some palaces, exhibition halls, workshops and rental services may have their own access conditions. If an area is closed, continue along the public route rather than entering an unavailable courtyard or filming area.
Walking, weather and spending
The 1,500-mu park involves long walks. Wear flat, non-slip shoes, carry water and plan for shade or rest. Stone surfaces, steps and squares can be slippery in rain, so reduce your walking speed with older adults or children.
People inside the park may promote photography, costume or other services. If you want to buy something, ask about the price, what is included and the refund conditions first. If not, decline directly instead of changing your route because of a sales pitch.
