Choose your visit
North Putuo Temple and Guanyin Cave Scenic Area
North Putuo Temple is the main temple complex at the foot of the mountain, with red-walled courtyards that show the scale of the buildings. Guanyin Cave Scenic Area is built against the cliff and combines cave scenery with Buddhist architecture. Follow the scenic-area path, watching for steps and dimly lit sections.
Jiguan Mountain, Arhat Slope and Mirror Lake
Jiguan Mountain is a good choice for elevated views toward Jinzhou. Arhat Slope follows the mountain path, while Mirror Lake fits naturally into the lower section after the climb. Several destinations share similar names, so set your map to No. 1 Chongguan Road (重观路 1 号) in Guta District; Qingyan Temple is in Beizhen and requires a separate trip.
Viewpoints and walking effort
The red walls at North Putuo Temple, the cliff face at the entrance to Guanyin Cave Scenic Area and the view from the top of Jiguan Mountain offer different photo settings. The cave area is dim in places, and Jiguan Mountain has stone steps and loose gravel. Stay on the marked paths when carrying camera gear or travelling with others.
Build your day
Short visit: about 2–3 hours
Walk about 1 km from the gate to the lower court of North Putuo Zen Temple (北普陀禅寺下院), then follow the scenic-area path to the cable car’s lower station and continue toward Guanyin Cave Scenic Area by following the signs. After the visit, follow the park signs back to the gate. A reference fare for the electric shuttle from Lovers Garden (情人园) to the gate is CNY 7 per person. Ask at the temple whether vegetarian meals are being served.
Longer visit: about 4–5 hours
From the gate, go to the lower court of North Putuo Zen Temple. From there, take the cable car or climb the stone steps to Jiguan Mountain. After visiting the summit, follow the open route back to the cable car’s lower station, then continue to Guanyin Cave Scenic Area, Lovers Garden and the upper temple (上院). Return to the gate on foot or take the electric shuttle from Lovers Garden if it is operating that day. Confirm the last cable-car and shuttle departures before setting out. The cable-car reference fare is CNY 20 one way or CNY 30 return; the stair climb takes about 30 minutes.
Stay on marked mountain routes
Unmarked ridge paths outside the scenic area are not official hiking routes. Use signed steps and open paths, and do not descend by an informal side trail.
Get there
Local buses and taxis
From Jinzhou Railway Station (锦州站), take Bus 206 to Wangtun (王屯), then transfer to Bus 226. Bus 226 is listed as running from May through October. Check the transfer point, return service and other months’ schedules before you travel. A taxi from central Jinzhou costs around CNY 30–40.
Driving and transport inside the scenic area
Set your destination to “Jinzhou North Putuo Mountain Scenic Area” (锦州北普陀山风景名胜区). The entrance road to the lower temple is about 1 km. Check on site whether private cars may continue into the mountain, where to park and whether the CNY 20-per-car charge applies. The cable car goes to Jiguan Mountain; the electric shuttle from Lovers Garden returns to the gate. Both services depend on that day’s operating schedule.
Know before you go
Steps, loose gravel and weather
The scenic area has stone steps and some steep gravel slopes. Climbing Jiguan Mountain takes more effort than walking between the temple and Mirror Lake. Wear shoes with good grip and bring a light windproof layer; weather, path closures and cable-car operation can affect your route.
Food and offerings
There are few supply points on the mountain. A vegetarian meal at the temple is listed at CNY 15, but service days and hours are unclear; ask when you arrive. Incense and blessing items are optional purchases, not a requirement for visiting. Bring water and a small snack if needed.
Plan separate transport to the Liaoshen Memorial
North Putuo Mountain and the Liaoshen Campaign Memorial are separate attractions, each with its own tickets and entry rules. The memorial is open on Mondays from April through October. The mountain visit does not cover the memorial’s ID check or the panorama show schedule.
