Location, ticket and opening hours

Baogong Memorial Temple is at 1 Xiangyang Road on the west bank of Baogong Lake in Gulou District, Kaifeng. The main entrance is the front gate. An adult ticket costs CNY 30. The CNY 15 half-price information for retired service members requires on-site confirmation. Summer hours are roughly 07:00–18:30 and winter hours about 07:30–17:30. From June to October, the site may extend into a night visit until about 22:00; follow the notice for that day.

Suggested visit length

The temple is compact. Allow 30–60 minutes to follow the central axis through the front gate, second gate, main hall, and lakeside. If you connect Baogong Temple Wharf and the Bian River Cruise with a city walk, allow at least two hours and add the boat and riverside walking time separately.

Main hall and the three bronze blades

The main hall contains a roughly three-metre bronze statue of Bao Zheng. The side halls display wax figures from The Execution of Chen Shimei and the Dragon-head, Tiger-head, and Dog-head bronze blades. Start with the themed displays, then move to the lake for a rest or garden views.

Temple garden by Baogong Lake

The temple is surrounded by water on three sides and has rockeries, lake views, and seasonal lotus scenery. The main hall, bronze lions, wax-figure hall, and lakeside each offer a different focus. On a short route, follow the central axis first, then pause by the lake.

Who will enjoy this visit

Baogong Memorial Temple suits visitors interested in the stories of Bao Zheng, memorial architecture, and Kaifeng's old-city waterways. It also works as a short stop around Baogong Lake. If you want to continue into the night or take a boat, confirm the night opening, departures, and return plan separately.

Build your day

A 30–60 minute temple route

Enter through the front entrance and follow the central axis through the outer gate, second gate, and main hall. Focus on the bronze statue of Bao Zheng and the wax figures from The Execution of Chen Shimei, then continue towards the lakeside. Photography stops include the main-hall entrance, bronze lions, wax-figure hall, and lake. Moving from the central axis towards the lake keeps the route from doubling back.

For a daytime-only visit, arrange departure around the summer closing time of about 18:30 or the winter closing time of about 17:30. The closing time and internal routes follow the notice for that day.

A 2-hour temple-and-cruise route

After visiting the temple, walk to the nearby Baogong Temple Wharf and take the Bian River Cruise south towards Xisi Night Market, or north towards Millennium City Park. After disembarking, allow about five minutes to walk to Xisi Night Market, then use the pass and available departures to return from Xisi Wharf or Baogong Temple Wharf.

The temple ticket and boat ticket are separate. Water-route connections, departures, and night operating hours follow the dock's arrangements. If no suitable boat is running, use a bus or ride-hailing service for the next part of the route.

Night visit when available

If a night visit is open from June to October, decide whether to stay longer after the daytime visit using the day's notice. Night access may continue until about 22:00. Baogong Memorial Temple's night visit, Kaifeng Government Office's night programme, and the Bian River night cruise are sold and arranged separately.

Get there

Public transport and entrance

Bus routes 1, 8, 16, 20, and 35 stop at “Baogong Memorial Temple” (包公祠站). Use Baogong Memorial Temple as the taxi destination and enter through the front gate.

Connections to the wharf

Baogong Temple Wharf is next to the temple and is convenient for a walking connection after the visit. When continuing to Xisi Night Market or Millennium City Park, include the disembarkation point, walking distance, and return departures in the route.

Know before you go

Opening changes

Summer hours are roughly 07:00–18:30 and winter hours about 07:30–17:30. From June to October, a night visit may extend to about 22:00. Whether it opens at night, the start time, and ticket arrangements follow the attraction's notice for that day.

Separate tickets and benefits

The adult ticket is CNY 30. The CNY 15 retired-service-member fare requires on-site verification. Baogong Memorial Temple admission, Bian River tickets, and Kaifeng Government Office admission are separate; the lakeside scenery does not change those ticket arrangements.

Water, walking and photography

The temple is surrounded by water on three sides. Stay on the open walking paths by the lake and do not cross the railings to approach the water. Conditions for photographing the wax-figure hall, statues, and lake views differ; follow the on-site rules for cameras and phones.
