How to Visit
1

Arrive at the visitor center with time to spare

The park is not far from central Lanzhou, but public transport involves a transfer. Drive or use ride-hailing and set the visitor center as your destination. Since 2026, the park opens at 08:30; ticket sales end at 17:00 on weekdays and 17:30 on weekends and public holidays. Morning entry is the most practical choice.

Tip:The adult ticket with the sightseeing bus costs CNY 80. The park is too spread out to visit without using its internal transport.
2

Take the internal transport to the high viewpoints first

After entering, follow the park transport system to key stops such as Silk Road Ancient Trail and Danding Lansheng. Do not try to link every viewpoint on foot. Starting high and working downhill reduces climbing and leaves you with more energy for the longer boardwalk.

Tip:Private cars cannot enter the core visiting area and must use the designated parking area.
3

Make the downhill boardwalk from Danding Lansheng to Shayun Tuoling your main walk

This wooden boardwalk is the key section for close views of the rock textures and coloured hills. Allow about 1.5-2 hours with photo stops. If you do not want the full walk, shorten the route and continue by sightseeing bus.

Tip:There is little shade in the exposed landscape, so do not leave the long boardwalk until late in the day.
4

Finish at Jiuse Danqing and the hot-air-balloon platform, then leave a transport buffer

After the walk, continue by park transport to Jiuse Danqing and the remaining viewpoints, then return to the visitor center. If you use a city shuttle, confirm its meeting point and departure time when you enter; its return trip may be earlier than the park's ticket-sales cutoff.

Tip:Ticket sales, boardwalk access and the final sightseeing bus do not necessarily end at the same time.
Highlights
  • High viewpoints reveal the full scale of the coloured hills, gullies and layered landforms.
  • The downhill boardwalk from Danding Lansheng to Shayun Tuoling combines close rock views with a substantial walk.
  • Jiuse Danqing is a useful stop for observing different colour bands and erosion patterns.
  • Internal sightseeing buses connect the main viewpoints, making this a practical half- or full-day landform trip without self-driving.
Insider Tips

Sunny weather usually brings out clearer colours, but UV exposure and ground glare are strong. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and plenty of water.

Do not cross barriers or leave the marked route. It is unsafe and can damage fragile geological formations.

Weather, strong wind or rain can affect higher paths and transport. Keep some flexibility in your return plan.

Enter early if you want the full boardwalk. Visitors focused on photos and panoramic views can reduce the walking without forcing a long route.

Food options inside are limited, so bring simple snacks and water.
