Lanzhou Museum is at 240 Qingyang Road in Chengguan District. It works well with a walk or short taxi ride in central Lanzhou, and focuses on local history and the former Baiyi Temple site rather than the province-wide story told at Gansu Provincial Museum.

Arrange your reservation and entry before visiting at a small-museum pace

Admission is free, and it is best to check reservation arrangements through the museum's WeChat account before leaving. The regular schedule is Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-17:00, with last entry at 16:30; the museum is closed on Mondays.

Look at the architecture and courtyard first, then begin with the west-side galleries

Do not go straight to the display cases. Take a moment to see the Baiyi Temple site and its courtyard, then follow the route through West Gallery 1, West Gallery 2, the North Gallery, and finally the East Gallery.

Prioritize painted pottery, Baiyi Temple finds, and Han-era material

In the west-side galleries, focus on Majiayao painted pottery and its wave and animal patterns. Continue with Ming-dynasty finds from the Baiyi Temple Pagoda, then look for Han-era wood carvings and bamboo slips.

End with the East Gallery and return to the courtyard for photos

Use the East Gallery for any temporary exhibitions, then return to the courtyard before leaving. The Baiyi Temple Pagoda with surrounding modern buildings makes a worthwhile final view.
