Decide whether Yuanyang Lake is a main stop or an optional stop
Yuanyang Lake is inside Xiaoqikong Scenic Area, not a separate attraction. It is best for travelers who want a slower lake stop or a boating experience. If your day is tight and you only want the main Xiaoqikong route, treat it as optional.
Visit it after Wolong Pool on the west-to-east route
If you enter from the West Gate, Yuanyang Lake fits naturally after Wolong Pool. Take the sightseeing bus to the Yuanyang Lake stop, then decide on site whether the lake route and boat service fit your timing.
Focus on the water-maze experience when boating is available
The value of Yuanyang Lake is not a quick look from the shore. Its best experience is moving through the lake channels, trees, reflections, and karst water-forest scenery. If boat service is operating and you have enough time and energy, this is the part that makes the stop worthwhile.
Control the time so it does not slow the whole Xiaoqikong route
If you only look from the shore, 20-30 minutes is enough. If you go boating, allow at least 60-90 minutes. You still need time for Cuigu Waterfall, Water Forest, 68-Step Waterfall, Laya Waterfall, and Xiaoqikong Bridge.
✦Yuanyang Lake follows the Xiaoqikong Scenic Area ticket, sightseeing bus, and entry schedule. It does not use a separate scenic-area admission ticket.
✦Boat and water activities are separate add-ons when operating. Check the on-site boat ticket counter before building your route around boating.
✦If boat service is paused, keep Yuanyang Lake as a short lake and water-forest stop instead of changing the whole route.
✦Self-rowing takes time and physical effort. If you are traveling with older visitors, children, or a group doing the full Xiaoqikong route, do not schedule it too tightly.
✦After heavy rain, the lake may have more water, but water color, safety controls, and boat operations can change.
✦Bring sun protection and water. Some lake sections are exposed, and the stop can take longer than expected if you choose to boat.
