Plan at a glance

The shrine below Dinghu Peak

Yellow Emperor Shrine is below Dinghu Peak in the core Xiandu Scenic Area, in Dinghu Village. It has no independent external entrance: enter the Dinghu Peak area first, then walk along the main route to the shrine. The main buildings, surname-genealogy wall and surrounding mountain-and-water setting are its main content. A quick visit takes 30–45 minutes; allow 2–3 hours if you also walk Buxu Mountain or plan around a performance.

Entry to the shrine requires the Dinghu Peak ticket, covered by the CNY 90 two-day Xiandu pass. Scenic-bus transport costs a separate CNY 20 and can be used repeatedly over two days. Opening normally follows Xiandu and Dinghu Peak, at around 07:30–17:30. The live Xuanyuan Praise performance does not run on Mondays, and public holidays, typhoons and other severe weather may change routes or sessions.

Who should plan a visit

This stop suits visitors interested in Yellow Emperor culture, surname culture, traditional architecture or ritual performances. It also gives children and older relatives a cultural pause in addition to Dinghu Peak’s natural scenery. The shrine itself does not require a long climb, but time and steps increase noticeably if you add Buxu Mountain.

On a first visit to Dinghu Peak, the shrine works as a 30–45 minute addition within the main area. If cultural experience or the performance is the priority, time your arrival around the day’s entry, show and return arrangements rather than finding that other attractions are near the end of visitor reception after the performance.

Choose your visit

Main hall, surname wall and Dinghu Peak backdrop

The shrine’s main buildings, surname-genealogy wall and the Dinghu Peak backdrop across the Release Pond make up the main viewing content. The Yellow Emperor statue and surname wall in the main hall suit visitors interested in family culture or architectural details; there is no need to extend the visit trying to find every surname.

The steps before the shrine are useful for looking up at the main hall, while the far side of the pond frames the shrine and Dinghu Peak together. Keep the main path clear for others when taking photographs, and follow on-site signs for indoor photography.

Choosing the performance or Buxu Mountain

The live Xuanyuan Praise performance is an optional activity for visitors who want a ritual scene. Its usual schedule is 09:50 and 10:30 on Tuesday to Sunday mornings, with no Monday performance. Plan arrival around the day’s actual session rather than treating it as something guaranteed on every visit.

Buxu Mountain overlooks Dinghu Peak and the Nine-Bend Lian Stream, and suits visitors with more time and energy. You can take the one-way CNY 25 cable car uphill and walk down. In hot weather, or with companions who do not suit stairs, staying within the shrine and Dinghu Peak main area is the better choice.

Build your day

30–45 minutes: a shrine visit inside Dinghu Peak

Take the scenic bus from the Visitor Centre to Dinghu Peak station, enter the main area and follow the main route to Yellow Emperor Shrine. See the main hall, surname wall and pond-side view, then return to the Dinghu Peak route. This suits visitors already near Dinghu Peak who want a cultural building as part of their main-area visit.

If Zhutan Mountain is also on the plan, complete the shrine and other ticket-checking areas at Dinghu Peak before transferring there for the distant view. Do not leave entry to the shrine until late afternoon, when an indoor visit may become shorter and the next transfer tighter.

2–3 hours: shrine plus Buxu Mountain

Enter from Dinghu Peak station and visit Yellow Emperor Shrine. If the day’s operations and your energy allow, walk up Buxu Mountain or take the cable car up and walk down. After descending, return to the Dinghu Peak area, then choose Zhutan Mountain or another Xiandu stop according to the remaining time.

If the performance is the priority, confirm its entrance point and session before setting your arrival time. After it ends, there is no need to rush to every nearby sight; protect the return transport, closing time and the group’s energy first.

Get there

From Jinyun West Station to Dinghu Peak

From Jinyun West Station, take a tourist direct bus, taxi or ride-hailing car to the Xiandu Visitor Centre; the journey takes about 30–40 minutes. Change there to the scenic bus for Dinghu Peak station, then walk into Yellow Emperor Shrine. Xiandu’s sights are spread out, so the scenic bus is a more suitable main transfer than continuous walking.

There is no direct metro. Drivers should navigate to Xiandu Scenic Area Visitor Centre, park in the designated daytime area and transfer in. If you have booked accommodation inside the scenic area and need vehicle access, confirm vehicle registration and the reachable area for that day with the property in advance.

Finding the shrine inside Dinghu Peak

Yellow Emperor Shrine is not entered separately from outside the scenic area. From Dinghu Peak station, enter the main area normally, then follow the main route and signs on foot. Pair it with the close view of Dinghu Peak rather than making a separate out-and-back visit for the shrine.

Transport products, stops and last services vary with the day’s arrangement. If Zhutan Mountain or Little Red Cliff comes next, confirm the direction of the next transfer before leaving the shrine instead of making a hurried cross-area move near closing.

Know before you go

Performance, weather and opening boundaries

There is no live Xuanyuan Praise performance on Mondays; the usual Tuesday-to-Sunday morning sessions are 09:50 and 10:30. Public holidays, typhoons and other severe weather can change sessions and routes. A performance session does not mean other areas stay open longer.

The shrine and Buxu Mountain are both inside the Dinghu Peak area, while tickets, cable cars, scenic transport and food have their own arrangements. Confirm the Dinghu Peak entry scope when buying. Before using the cable car, also confirm the up-and-down arrangement and return time rather than leaving the descent until the light is poor.

Steps, food and photography etiquette

Buxu Mountain and the shrine’s front steps both involve stairs, which are slippery after rain. Wear shoes with good grip and carry water. When planning Buxu Mountain, include descent, rests and transfers as well as the climb. For children or older relatives, the shrine’s main route is already a complete and worthwhile visit.

There are food choices near the Dinghu Peak exit and Xuanyuan Culture Street, so do not carry a large amount of food or souvenirs through the shrine. Follow on-site signs when photographing the surname wall, main hall and cliff, keep the main path clear, and do not cross barriers or enter areas that are not open.
