Plan at a glance
The main Xiandu stop
Dinghu Peak is inside Xiandu Scenic Area. Its natural stone pillar, about 170 metres high, makes it the key main-area stop to keep on a first visit. Most visitors transfer from the Xiandu Visitor Centre, or come after photographing its distant view at Zhutan Mountain. Planning both together works well for anything from half a day to a full day.
Dinghu Peak is entered with the two-day Xiandu pass. The pass costs CNY 90 and scenic-bus transport costs a separate CNY 20, for a combined budget of CNY 110; the bus can be used repeatedly over two days and runs about every 15 minutes. Buying online a day ahead may show pass discounts of CNY 70–85, so confirm whether transport is separate. The main area generally operates until 17:00. If you want to enter the main section, visit Huangdi Shrine and include Zhutan Mountain on the same trip, allow at least 2–3 hours rather than taking a quick photo at the entrance and leaving.
Tickets and who it suits
Tickets can usually be bought on site or online, without a separate reservation. Visitors aged 60 and above receive half price, and those aged 70 and above enter free. If anyone in your group is using an age-based discount, bring identification and confirm the applicable conditions when buying tickets.
This stop suits first-time visitors to Xiandu, anyone interested in the rock pillar and landscape photography, and families who do not want a long continuous mountain hike. Scenic transport reduces the effort of moving between stops, but normal walking is still needed to reach some viewpoints.

One stone pillar, two viewing angles
The direct way to see Dinghu Peak is to look up at the pillar from the main area. At Zhutan Mountain, the stone bridge, stream and Dinghu Peak sit in one view. Each angle has a different strength: keep both if time allows; with only half a day, make Zhutan Mountain shorter and save more time for Dinghu Peak itself.
Huangdi Shrine is near Dinghu Peak and adds a cultural element for visitors who want one. The experience is mainly landscape viewing and a short stop, not a strenuous hiking itinerary.
Choices for photographers
Zhutan Mountain is better for morning mist, reflections and bridge views; the Dinghu Peak main area is better for the scale and close view of the pillar. Yandang Bookstore has interior light in the afternoon, while Little Red Cliff's cliff faces work well in the evening, so both can extend a photography-focused day.
Film-location information can help you recognise a scene, but it is not a reason to rush through the itinerary trying to recreate one. For children or companions who do not enjoy long walks, Dinghu Peak, Zhutan Mountain and one rest stop are enough.
Build your day
Essential half-day route
From the Visitor Centre, take scenic transport to Zhutan Mountain. Photograph the stream, stone bridge and distant Dinghu Peak, then continue to the Dinghu Peak main area. Follow the on-site route for your close view of the pillar and a visit to Huangdi Shrine, then return to the transport stop. This route suits first-time visitors with limited time.
Allow about 40–60 minutes at Zhutan Mountain and about two hours at Dinghu Peak. If no one in your group is taking photos, keep Zhutan Mountain to the main viewpoint and save more time for Dinghu Peak and lunch.
Full-day extension
With a full day, continue after Zhutan Mountain and Dinghu Peak to Niweng Cave for its cliff inscriptions, then Yandang Bookstore, and head to Little Red Cliff in the afternoon. Use transfers between every stop rather than trying to walk the entire sequence; otherwise the travel between sights will consume the time meant for viewing.
Lunch around Xuanyuan Culture Street is convenient. If you are entering several ticketed stops, do the parts that require ticket checks earlier in the afternoon, then finish beside the river and on the walkways at Little Red Cliff.
Get there
High-speed rail and scenic transport
From Jinyun West Station, take a scenic-area direct bus or a taxi to the Xiandu Visitor Centre. The direct bus is about CNY 15 and a taxi is about CNY 40–50. Transfer to scenic transport there for Dinghu Peak; this is more dependable than trying to find a car on scenic-area roads at the last minute.
Dinghu Peak has no metro connection. The scenic bus can be used repeatedly over two days, and shared electric two-wheelers are also available in the area. If you do not know the roads or are travelling with several people, use the scenic bus as your main transport and walk only the shorter sections.
Driving, parking and vehicle arrangements
Drivers can first park at the Xiandu Visitor Service Centre. Internal scenic roads are managed during the day. If you genuinely need to drive in, confirm vehicle registration and the reachable area for that day in advance with your booked accommodation or restaurant inside the scenic area.
Do not buy unverified vehicle services at the last minute or rely only on a verbal promise of access to internal roads. Leaving the car at the Visitor Centre and using transfers keeps both your return time and route more controllable.

Ticket details to confirm when buying
Dinghu Peak is included in the CNY 90 two-day Xiandu pass. Scenic-bus transport is a separate CNY 20 and can be used repeatedly over two days. When buying, check the ticket and transport components separately and confirm whether your chosen product includes anything additional.
The scenic area generally opens around 08:00 and stops receiving visitors around 17:00. Online and on-site purchases are both possible, but starting from the Visitor Centre is easier on holidays. Do not begin a main-area section that needs a long visit close to closing time.
Walking, sun and meals
Midday light is harsh and temperatures are high. If photography is the priority, visit Dinghu Peak in the morning or later in the afternoon. Watch your footing on stone steps and in crowded sections. Scenic transport reduces transfer walking but does not replace all walking.
Restaurants at the scenic-area entrance may not be worth a long wait. Xuanyuan Culture Street has local food options. Carry water and a light snack to keep the pace manageable between Zhutan Mountain, Dinghu Peak and the next stop.
