Entrances and flower-area layout
China National Peony Garden is at No. 2 Longmen Avenue, Luolong District, Luoyang. The garden has South, West and East Gates. The South Gate is closer to the core flower areas, the West Gate is the main entrance and has the most complete visitor facilities, and the East Gate connects with Luopu Park. For a first flower visit, choose the entrance according to the flower areas and the route planned for that day.
Flower season, tickets and opening hours
During the Luoyang Peony Culture Festival, the reference adult ticket price is CNY 30–50, changing between the early, peak and late flowering periods. Visitors aged 60 or above, children under 1.4 meters and tourist annual-pass holders are handled under the current policy. Advance booking is usually not required; check the flower conditions through the official WeChat account and buy online or on site. Regular opening hours are about 07:00–19:00. Some weekends and public holidays may offer night visits; confirm the arrangements in the notice for that day.
How much time to allow
Allow about 1 hour for the key sights from the West Gate, including Jiuse Terrace, Yaohuang Pavilion and the main flower avenue. From the South Gate, visit Wuyuefang and the China National Flower Terrace, then walk west along the main flower avenue for about 2–3 hours. The garden is large. Allow half a day for a complete walk and photography, and remember that the distance between the South and West Gates affects both walking effort and the time needed to leave.

Peony varieties and Wuyuefang
The garden grows more than 800 peony varieties. Wuyuefang is an indoor, temperature-controlled exhibition hall that extends the flowering season and focuses on late-blooming and some rare varieties. From late April to early May, make Wuyuefang a priority. Outdoor conditions change with the year and weather, so a fixed date cannot guarantee that the entire garden will be in peak bloom at the same time.
Jiuse Terrace, Yaohuang Pavilion and the Luo River landscape
Jiuse Terrace and Yaohuang Pavilion are suitable for elevated views of the flower fields and distant views toward Luopu Park. Erqiao Pavilion, the Hebaomudan Corridor and the lake landscape connected to the Luo River are better for a slower walk. Visitors interested in flower, traditional-building or hanfu portraits can choose different photography spots around the West Gate sign, the West Gate flower area and Wuyuefang.
Who this suits
Photography enthusiasts can photograph flower fields and close-ups of varieties between 07:00 and 09:00, while after 16:00 is suitable for backlit petals. Families and leisure visitors can choose the short route from the South Gate near the core flower areas. The garden paths are relatively level, and the indoor flower hall also offers a place to rest in hot weather.

1 hour: West Gate highlights
Enter through the West Gate, see Jiuse Terrace and Yaohuang Pavilion first, then follow the main flower avenue past the flower fields and leave through the West Gate. The West Gate suits photographs of the gate tower and the overall entrance, and its short route works well when the flower season is limited or you only want the main sights.
2–3 hours: South Gate to West Gate deep route
After entering through the South Gate, walk east for about 10 minutes to Wuyuefang and the China National Flower Terrace. See the indoor late-blooming varieties first, then walk back west along the main route through the flower avenue and other variety areas before leaving through the West Gate. The gentle slope from the West Gate to Wuyuefang is nearly 2 kilometers, so entering at the West Gate and walking to Wuyuefang significantly increases the walking distance.
East Gate and Luopu Park
The East Gate connects with Luopu Park and works well for combining flower viewing with a riverside walk. It is not the closest entrance to Wuyuefang, so the South Gate is the more direct starting point when the indoor extended-season flower hall is a priority.

Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 2 to Wenboyuan Station. Exit from Exit B and walk about 10–15 minutes to the South Gate. Bus routes 37, 49, 68 and 77, among others, stop at “China National Peony Garden West Gate” or “Niewan.” The South and West Gates lead to different flower areas, so choose the entrance after getting off according to the plan.
Self-driving and parking
The West Gate parking lot can fill quickly on public holidays. An alternative is to navigate to the Luoyang Gardening and Landscaping Center west of the Binhe South Road–Mudan Bridge intersection, then walk about 5 minutes to the South or West Gate. Confirm parking spaces and pedestrian access on site that day, and select the intended gate clearly in navigation.
Know before you go
Flower season and night visits
After mid-to-late April, early- and mid-season outdoor varieties gradually fade naturally. Visitors arriving later in the season can check Wuyuefang and the late-blooming area first. Night visits are available only on some weekends, public holidays or event dates; follow the notice for that day for night lighting and entry arrangements.
Walking, tickets and nearby itineraries
Walking distances in the garden are long, and the gentle slope to Wuyuefang is nearly 2 kilometers, so comfortable shoes are better for a long visit. Buy tickets through official channels; low-priced tickets and admission services sold by roadside vendors are not part of the itinerary. Luoyi Ancient City, Longmen Grottoes and other peony gardens can be combined by car before or after the garden, but check their flower conditions and opening hours separately.
