Entrance and transport within the mountain
Laojun Mountain is at Group 21, Qiliping Village, Luanchuan County, Luoyang. The visitor center is the main transfer hub. It is about 7 kilometers from the visitor center to the cableway entrance, and the scenic-area shuttle is usually required. When driving or taking a taxi, navigate to “老君山景区云景索道停车场”; Luanchuan County town is only the county-level transport transfer point.
Tickets and cableway fees
The reference admission price is CNY 100. The reference round-trip fare for the first-stage cableway, either Zhongling Cableway or Yunjing Cableway, is CNY 130. The reference round-trip fare for the second-stage Fenglin Cableway is CNY 80. The reference round-trip fare for the sightseeing shuttle between the visitor center and cableway entrance is CNY 20. Admission, the first-stage cableway, the second-stage cableway and the scenic-area shuttle are charged separately. Advance purchase through the official “Laojun Mountain Scenic Area” WeChat account is recommended.
How much time to allow
Using both cableway stages and walking the core summit area takes about 4 hours on a fast route. Allow about 6–7 hours for the Immortal Realm Tunnel, the Main Peak of Mount Funiu, the South Heaven Gate and sunset. The scenic area can be open all day, but uphill cableway service usually runs about 07:30–16:00. Downhill service changes by season, and climbing the mountain at night is prohibited.

The Golden Summit temple complex
The Golden Summit temple complex includes Liangbaotai, Yuhuang Peak and Wumu Golden Hall. Sunset or the evening lights are suitable for photographing the buildings and mountain scenery. Laojun Mountain reaches about 2,217 meters at its highest point. Summit views depend on the sea of clouds, weather and visibility, so consider both temperature and walking capacity when planning the ascent.
Shili Huaping and Dream Chasing Valley
Shili Huaping is the area of suspended walkways along the summit, with views of rock peaks, a sea of clouds and the Funiu Mountains. Dream Chasing Valley has streams and woodland and is better for summer walks and escaping the heat. Visitors interested in hiking, photography or traditional-style architecture can make the Golden Summit and Shili Huaping the main goals; Dream Chasing Valley requires additional time at the foot of the mountain.
Who this suits
Photography enthusiasts can plan around clouds, sunset, snow or the illuminated Golden Summit. Hikers can choose more walking after the second-stage cableway. When traveling with older adults or children, the first-stage cableway and scenic-area shuttle reduce the mountain-road drive and uphill walking, but the summit walkways still need to be chosen according to individual capacity.

4 hours: Summit highlights
Take the scenic-area shuttle from the visitor center to the cableway entrance, ride the first-stage cableway to Zhongtian Gate, and then take the second-stage cableway to the summit area. Follow Shili Huaping to Mazon Ridge and the Golden Summit temple complex, then return by the same route after taking photographs.
6–7 hours: Deep summit route
After taking the first-stage cableway to Zhongtian Gate, walk through the Immortal Realm Tunnel, enter Shili Huaping, and continue to the Main Peak of Mount Funiu, the South Heaven Gate and the Golden Summit temple complex. If waiting for sunset or the evening lights, first confirm the downhill cableway time and include the walking time back to the cableway station.
Returning after the lights come on
The reference summer lighting period at the Golden Summit is about 19:00–20:00, but the exact time changes with the season and the arrangements for that day. After viewing the lights, downhill services such as the first-stage cableway may close according to the day’s schedule. Do not assume that cableways will still be available at night. Night climbing is prohibited, and the return must follow the cableway and scenic-area arrangements.
Get there
Tourist direct bus
From Luoyang Railway Station or Luoyang Longmen Station, take the Jiaoyun Group tourist direct bus to the Yunjing Cableway entrance. The one-way journey usually takes about 2.5–3 hours. After arrival, complete the shuttle and cableway transfers according to the on-site arrangements, and include both travel legs in the day’s itinerary before buying tickets.
Self-driving and transport within the scenic area
When driving, navigate to “老君山景区云景索道停车场,” then follow the parking-area route to the cableway entrance. The visitor center is about 7 kilometers from the cableway entrance, and the reference round-trip scenic-area shuttle fare is CNY 20. This distance should not be treated as an ordinary walking transfer.
Know before you go
Queues, temperature changes and walking
Cableway queues can exceed 2 hours on public holidays. Arriving at the cableway station before 07:00 or visiting on a weekday is more suitable for a tight itinerary. Summit temperatures are usually around 16–20°C. Even when it is hot at the foot of the mountain, bring a thick jacket or light down jacket. Suspended walkways and uphill sections remain after the second-stage cableway.
Rumors and nearby combinations
Shili Huaping currently has no elevator that goes directly to the Golden Summit, so the area still requires walking along the route. Jiguan Cave is about 10 kilometers from Laojun Mountain, with a drive of about 20 minutes. The two can be arranged over two days, or you can choose just one. Luanchuan tofu soup, Luanchuan Eight-Bowl Feast and Siweiju can be considered for a meal in Luanchuan.
