Visit scope and admission
Meijiang District Museum is a small local-history museum covering the district's historical development, revolutionary history and local culture. Search for “梅江区博物馆” when navigating. Do not search only for “Meizhou Museum,” because the city also has the much larger China Hakka Museum; they are different institutions.
Admission is free, and advance booking is usually unnecessary. Scan the code or register on site. The usual opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:30, with regular closure on Mondays; public holidays and special holidays may follow a different schedule.
Suggested visit time
Allow around 1–1.5 hours for the galleries and Kuixing Tower. This museum works best as one stop on a Meijiang old-city culture route, rather than as a half-day visit to a large comprehensive museum.

“Millennium Jiaying” and “Red Meijiang”
The “Millennium Jiaying” exhibition covers the district's history, while the “Red Meijiang” exhibition focuses on local revolutionary history. The displays use objects, old photographs and reconstructed scenes, making this a useful first stop before walking through the old streets.
Humanities and Kuixing Tower
The Humanities and Culture exhibition introduces Meijiang's educational traditions and local culture. Kuixing Tower is an easily recognised historic building in or around the museum. Visitors interested in architecture can connect it with Jiangbei Old Street and Dongshan Academy on the same city route.
How it differs from China Hakka Museum
Meijiang District Museum focuses on district history and local culture. It is small and quiet. China Hakka Museum focuses on Hakka society, migration history and large-scale displays. If you mainly want a large round-house model or the Hakka migration exhibition, go to China Hakka Museum rather than treating the two museums as one place.
Build your day
A 1–1.5-hour district-history route
Enter through the main entrance, start with the “Millennium Jiaying” exhibition, continue to “Red Meijiang” and the Humanities and Culture exhibition, then finish at Kuixing Tower or the historic building area. This order gives you a local-history timeline before you connect it with the old streets.
The museum is not large, so keep the pace simple. After the main galleries, continue directly to Jiangbei Old Street if there is no temporary exhibition or event you need to see.
Meijiang old-city culture route
Visit Meijiang District Museum in the morning, then walk or take a short bicycle ride to Jiangbei Old Street for arcades, snacks and street architecture. In the afternoon, choose China Hakka Museum or Dongshan Academy according to your energy. The full route takes around 5–6 hours.
The two museums have different content, so do not use “Meizhou Museum” as a repeated navigation target. Confirm whether you are going to the district-history museum or the main Hakka museum before setting off.
Get there
City buses and bicycles
Meijiang District Museum is within the city's cultural and old-town area. Choose a bus, taxi or shared electric bicycle according to your starting point. It is close to Jiangbei Old Street and other city stops, so walking or using a short bicycle ride is often easier than moving the car repeatedly.
Driving and parking
Meijiang District has roadside spaces and shopping-centre car parks, but availability and charges depend on on-site management. If you also plan to visit Jiangbei Old Street, park outside the busiest area and walk instead of moving the car several times.
Know before you go
Name and closure day
“Meizhou Museum” is an easy name to misunderstand. Use “梅江区博物馆” when searching, avoid the regular Monday closure, and allow for changes during public holidays.
Museum size and nearby itinerary
The exhibitions are compact, and the main visit usually takes 1–1.5 hours. Refreshment options are limited, so pair the museum with Hakka noodles, Sanjidi soup or another city meal around Jiangbei Old Street. Shops keep their own hours; do not infer their opening times from the museum schedule.
