Plan at a glance
Location, entrance and tickets
Yannanfei Tea Plantation Scenic Area is in Yanyang Town, Meixian District, Meizhou. The usual entrance is the Visitor Service Centre. An offline ticket costs around CNY 80, while an online ticket bought in advance is around CNY 70; the ticket usually covers the tea plantation, Qiaoxi Ancient Village and the free shuttle bus between the two areas. Electric carts inside Qiaoxi or the tea plantation are charged separately, at around CNY 10 one way.
The scenic area generally opens from 08:00 to 17:30, with last admission at 17:30, and advance reservation is usually unnecessary. Before choosing an electric cart, confirm the free shuttle's direction and stopping arrangements at the Visitor Service Centre.
Suggested time and itinerary
Allow around 2–3 hours for Qiaoxi Ancient Village, its historic homes and a walk beside the stream. Allow 4–5 hours for the tea plantation, Yange Lake and Qiaoxi together. The tea fields and old village are in different areas, so include shuttle time and the return to the main entrance in your plan.
If you stay at the resort, you can visit the tea plantation and have a Hakka meal on day one, then visit Qiaoxi Ancient Village in the morning on day two before continuing to other Yanyang attractions. A two-day plan suits self-drive visitors and families who prefer a slower pace; do not compress both areas just to fit every point into one day.

Tea fields, tea paths and Yange Lake
The tea fields spread across the hills, and the tea paths are generally gentle enough for a relaxed walk. The tea pavilions and visitor centre usually offer free tea tasting, which can be a useful introduction to Hakka tea and tea-making, but the exact arrangement depends on the day.
The tea plantation is large, and walking there takes more effort than a visit to the old village alone. Visitors with older adults or children can put the tea fields earlier in the day, then decide whether an electric cart is worthwhile according to the shuttle arrangement and walking distance.
Qiaoxi Ancient Village and historic homes
Qiaoxi Ancient Village has historic Hakka homes along the stream, including Jishan Building. The area is usually cooler than the open tea fields, making it a useful quieter walk after the plantation.
The village is not one single indoor museum, and some buildings still show signs of residential use. Follow the on-site notices before entering or photographing interiors; do not treat every old house as an open exhibition hall.
Who it suits
Yannanfei suits visitors who enjoy tea landscapes, historic villages, light walking and family-oriented resort trips. Photographers can separate the tea plantation and Qiaoxi into different parts of the day instead of rushing between them.
Hakka food is available in the scenic area, and Hakka songs or instrumental performances may be scheduled at some times. Performances are not fixed, so the tea fields, village and meal should remain the main plan.
Build your day
A 2–3-hour Qiaoxi route
From the Visitor Service Centre, take the free shuttle to Qiaoxi Ancient Village, visit Jishan Building and the other historic homes, walk beside the stream, and return by shuttle. This order works well for visitors with limited time, older travellers and families who mainly want to see the village.
If you also want to see the tea fields, ask the driver whether the shuttle can stop there on the return journey, then walk to the tea area and follow the signs back to a shuttle stop. Do not assume that every electric cart is included in the ticket, or make repeated detours without confirming the stopping arrangement.
A 4–5-hour tea plantation and village route
First confirm the Qiaoxi shuttle arrangements, then plan the tea fields and Yange Lake. One efficient option is to take the free shuttle to Qiaoxi first and get off at the tea fields at an authorised stop on the return journey; if the shuttle cannot stop there that day, consider the internal electric cart and finish at the Visitor Service Centre.
Another option is to visit the tea plantation first and then take the free shuttle to Qiaoxi, but this requires more time for the return connection and walking. Groups with children or older adults should favour the route with fewer backtracks rather than trying to cover both areas at the expense of the last shuttle.
A two-day resort plan
On day one, walk in the tea plantation, have a Hakka meal and stay at the resort if you have confirmed the room. On day two, visit Qiaoxi Ancient Village in the morning, when the light and visitor levels are usually easier to manage, then continue to Ye Jianying Memorial Park or another Yanyang attraction. The resort has limited accommodation options, and holiday rooms may be scarce; travellers on a tighter budget can stay in Yanyang Town or Meizhou city instead.
Get there
Driving, high-speed rail and city buses
Driving to “Yannanfei Tea Plantation Scenic Area” is the most direct option. The journey from Guangzhou or Shenzhen takes around 2.5–3.5 hours, and a large free car park is available near the main entrance. A taxi from Meizhou West Railway Station takes around 40–50 minutes; you can also take a K1 bus into the city and transfer. Bus 17 from Meizhou city serves the scenic area.
The internal areas are large, so do not treat the Visitor Service Centre, tea fields and Qiaoxi Ancient Village as one walking entrance. Complete tickets and route checks at the main entrance before moving by shuttle or on foot.
Know before you go
Shuttle buses, electric carts and route order
The free shuttle included in the admission ticket is different from the electric carts used inside individual areas. An electric cart costs around CNY 10 one way; whether it is useful depends on the day's stopping arrangements, your group's walking ability and the distance inside the tea fields. Do not buy it simply because it is offered at the entrance.
Visiting Qiaoxi first and using the return shuttle to connect with the tea fields usually reduces extra transport and backtracking. If you visit the tea plantation first, confirm the shuttle times and stopping points for the return journey before setting out.
Spending, refreshments and weather
Tea and local products inside the scenic area may cost more than in Meizhou city. Free tasting can be treated as an introduction; buying tea does not need to be part of the visit. Farm meals in Qiaoxi are an option, but dishes and opening times should be confirmed on arrival. Carry water when walking in the tea fields, especially with children or older adults.
Mountain weather and mist can change the tea-field views, so tea seas and cloud scenes should not be treated as guaranteed. The plantation can be sunny, while streamside paths in the village may be damp; wear shoes with good grip and leave enough time to move between the two areas.
