Plan at a glance
Time and entrance
Meiling Palace is on the south side of Zhongshan Mountain Scenic Area at No. 9 Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Road. It has one main entrance. Allow about one hour for a quick visit, or 1.5–2 hours to slow down for the main building, the glazed corridor and the rear sycamore path.
Admission is about CNY 30, with a usual half-price ticket for students and visitors aged 60–69. Hours are generally 07:30–18:00, with final entry after 17:30; buy online through platforms such as Meituan or scan to purchase at the site.
Building and physical effort
There is no elevator inside the main building, so the visit involves continuous stairs. The main building, rear garden and sycamore path are not far apart, but the stairs matter for older visitors, children and anyone wearing unsuitable shoes.
Meiling Palace works well with Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum or Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum on the same day. It has its own ticket, so confirm admission and hours separately when planning the combination.

The second-floor glazed corridor and third-floor balcony
The circular glazed corridor on the second floor has 34 blue-background crane motifs selected by Soong Mei-ling and is the building’s main interior highlight. The third-floor balcony looks level with the surrounding sycamore-lined avenue and offers a ground-level perspective on the building and trees.
The first floor and other rooms are worth seeing in sequence for the building layout and exhibits. Visitors interested in modern architecture, interiors and photography can spend more time on the second and third floors instead of moving through too quickly.
The rear garden and ground-level photos
The vintage car at the main entrance, the rear sycamore path and the views through the glazed corridor are practical photo locations. In autumn, the rear path is especially useful for photos with depth under the tree canopy.
The complete “necklace” shape can only be seen from the air. From the ground, focus on the main building, corridor, balcony and path instead of walking around repeatedly looking for the full outline.
Build your day
A one-hour quick route
Enter the main building and move from the basement to the first, second and third floors, then finish with the rear sycamore path. This order avoids backtracking and fits well as one stop in a half-day Zhongshan route.
The stairs and photo stops on the second and third floors can make the visit longer than one hour. With older relatives or children, slow down between floors instead of trying to see every corner at once.
A 1.5–2 hour detailed route
See the basement and first floor first, then spend time on the second-floor glazed corridor to examine the railings, windows and light. Continue to the third-floor bedrooms and balcony for the surrounding view, then finish with the rear sycamore path.
If Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum is next, walk about 10–15 minutes towards Gate 5. For Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum or Linggu Temple, use the sightseeing bus and include the queue in your plan.
Get there
Walking from Muxuyuan Station
Take Metro Line 2 to Muxuyuan Station, Exit 1, and follow Wutong Avenue for about 10 minutes to the palace. This is a good route for visitors who enjoy a slow walk and the tree-lined street.
You can also take a sightseeing bus from Muxuyuan or Xiamafang Station and get off at Meiling Palace. The bus saves walking but may have queues, and you still need to walk from the stop to the main entrance.
Driving and local transfers
Driving to Meiling Palace is not recommended. If you must drive, reserve a parking space through the Zhongshan Mausoleum Scenic Area account and navigate to the Meiling Palace car park; holiday spaces are very limited.
Use the sightseeing bus to connect Meiling Palace with Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and Linggu Temple. The sites sell separate tickets, so confirm the next attraction’s closing time before transferring.
Know before you go
Stairs and clothing
The main building has no elevator and requires stair climbing, so wear comfortable, non-slip shoes and avoid slippers. With older visitors or children, check the stairs and crowd level first and decide how long to stay.
Flash photography is prohibited in the indoor exhibition rooms. Use natural light or a normal phone setting, follow the room notices and do not stop at stair turns where you block the passage.
Crowds and supplies
On holidays, enter before 10:00 or after 16:00 for an easier visit. If you arrive late in the afternoon, work backwards from the 17:30 final-entry time rather than the closing time.
Food options in Zhongshan Mountain are limited and can be expensive, so bring water and a small snack. If you plan to continue to Linggu Temple, use that stop for vegetarian food instead of looking for a full meal near the main building.
