Grassland scenery and themed activities in one visit
Ordos Grassland Tourist Area lies southwest of Xini Town in Hanggin Banner, about 9 km outside town according to Trip.com. The area combines grassland scenery, equestrian and folk performances, leisure activities and traditional Mongolian yurt (ger) accommodation. You can visit for half a day or stay longer depending on that day’s program.
Choose activities that suit the season
The grassland looks different from season to season, so check recent photos before you go. The scenic area has hosted equestrian shows, folk performances and grassland activities. What is open and when depends on the day’s official notice.

Catch the equestrian show “The Hero” if it is on
“The Hero” is the scenic area’s signature live equestrian show. Show dates and ticket arrangements can change, so check the day’s program before making a special trip.
Add folk activities and rides
Try traditional games such as touhu (投壶), where players toss objects toward a target, or saibulu (赛布鲁), a Mongolian throwing game. Other activities listed include a grassland sightseeing train, grass sliding, a rail ride, archery, go-karts and opportunities to feed lambs. Not every activity runs year-round. If you are traveling with children, check which experiences are available and whether age, height or other safety restrictions apply.
Staying for the evening? Plan your ride home first
Past programs have included “The Ordos Wedding,” acrobatics, a Zhama Feast (诈马宴), a traditional ceremonial banquet, and a bonfire party. Yurt stays are also offered. Show dates, lodging availability and transport after an evening event can change; confirm all three before making evening plans. Do not treat an event as a must-see unless your return or overnight plan is settled.

Build your day
Half-day route | Plan around the day’s program
At the visitor center, check the day’s program and which activities are open. If there is a performance you want to see, plan your route around it, add one or two open activities before or after, and allow time for queues, walking and breaks. If nothing on the program interests you, spend the half-day enjoying the grassland scenery and activities that are open.
Full-day route | Confirm daytime activities and evening shows separately
After entering, check the day’s program before planning equestrian, folk or family activities. Leave time for a meal and a break. Confirm separately whether there will be an evening show and how to get back afterward; do not rely on past show or transport times.
Overnight route | Confirm your stay before extending the visit
If you plan a yurt stay or attend an evening event, first confirm the room type, check-in time, what the stay includes and the departure procedures. Before setting out the next day, check activity availability and the weather. Verify accommodation, package inclusions and event arrangements separately; a lodging booking does not necessarily provide admission to a show or ride.
Get there
Navigate to the visitor center
Search for “Ordos Grassland Tourist Area Visitor Center.” The visitor center is in the area of County Road 621 in Hanggin Banner. On arrival, follow local instructions for parking, ticketing and where private vehicles may drive within the scenic area. Do not assume you can drive freely across the grassland.
If you are not driving, confirm transfers and the return trip
The scenic-area shuttle’s operating dates, boarding points, reservation method and last departure may change. Before leaving, confirm a round-trip plan with the scenic area or local transport channels. If you plan to attend an evening event, ask whether transport will be available after it ends.
Know before you go
Check admission, packages and individual activities separately
Admission, performances, rides and parking may be charged separately. Before buying, check what the admission ticket and package include and whether parking has a fee. “Open all day” does not necessarily mean every ride operates throughout the day.
Check the two tourist passes separately; do not assume discounts combine
The “Ordos Tourist All-in-One Annual Pass” and the “Inner Mongolia Culture and Tourism Pass” are separate products, with different eligible attractions and discount terms. Before using either, check its current benefits on the issuing platform and with the scenic area. Do not assume discounts can be combined.
