Plan at a glance

First check whether the scenic area has reopened

Yemingsha Desert Scenic Area is in the Duguitala area of Hanggin Banner, near the highway that crosses the Kubuqi Desert. As of October 20, 2026, its Ctrip page lists it as temporarily closed, with the reopening date to be announced. A September holiday notice covered activities during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival period, but does not confirm current access. Before traveling, contact the scenic area to confirm its reopening date, which areas you can enter and which activities are operating.

Sand, desert activities and possible evening experiences

When the sand is dry and the weather is suitable, sliding down a dune may make the sand sing. Past scenic-area introductions have listed camel rides, sand sliding and off-road vehicles. If the area reopens, plan desert activities according to what is operating that day. Check separately whether sunset activities, bonfires, stargazing and accommodation are available.

Tickets and visit details

View visit options for this attraction and confirm the visit date and current arrangements before you go.

Choose your visit

Daytime in the sand | Choose from activities that are open

The scenic area has previously offered sand sliding, camel rides, desert surf vehicles, all-terrain vehicles and a zipline. Activities may be affected by weather, equipment maintenance and the season. If it reopens, check the on-site activity list, ticket options and participation requirements before choosing what suits your group.

Sunset and bonfires | Check evening events separately

If the scenic area schedules a sunset or bonfire event, leave time for photos and a rest. Event dates, programs and ticket benefits may change. Once the area has reopened, ask at entry whether an evening event is taking place, when it ends, whether there is an extra charge and how to leave afterward.

Stargazing and sunrise | Follow approved routes

Past scenic-area information has mentioned nighttime stargazing and sunrise the next morning; poor weather may cancel them. If these activities resume, follow staff instructions about the route, meeting point and guide. Do not walk deeper into the dunes at night or climb alone before dawn.

For another desert destination with separately ticketed island routes, see Whistling Dune Bay.

Build your day

Short daytime visit | Plan only after activities reopen

After entering, confirm the desert shuttle, which areas and activities are open, and how to return. Then choose one or two options from the sand-singing experience and activities available that day. Return to the entrance according to scenic-area rules. If you are visiting during the day only, plan your exit around daytime opening hours.

Sunset and evening route | Buy a package only after confirming the event

If an official notice confirms an evening activity that day, check which activities the package includes and how many times each can be used. Then plan time for daytime activities, a sunset break and the evening program. Make sure the end time works with your transport or accommodation. If you do not have a workable return plan, do not make the bonfire or stargazing a must-do that night.

Overnight visit | Confirm accommodation and the next day’s route separately

If you plan to stay overnight, first ask whether the scenic-area hotel or other accommodation is operating, whether rooms are available and whether meals or activities are included. Plan for sunrise the next day based on the weather, guide service and areas you are allowed to enter. An accommodation booking does not grant permission for off-road driving, stargazing or a dune route.

Get there

Navigate to the entrance confirmed by the scenic area

You can search for “Yemingsha Desert Scenic Area” in your map app, but confirm the operating status and actual entrance with the scenic area first. Before entering this remote area, verify the map destination and road conditions, and follow the scenic area’s directions. Do not use an old address or road-distance marker to identify the entrance.

Driving is simplest; check the return before relying on a shuttle

The scenic area is remote, so driving makes it easier to plan your arrival and departure. Shuttle operating dates, boarding points, reservation requirements and last departures may change. If you are not driving, confirm the round trip with the scenic area before setting out, especially how to leave after an evening event.

Know before you go

Check the rules for each ticket, package and annual pass

Admission, packages and accommodation may be sold separately, and product contents can change. Check the current ticket details to see which areas and activities are included. The “Inner Mongolia Culture and Tourism Pass” and “Ordos Tourist All-in-One Annual Pass” are different products; check each one’s validity, eligible attractions and benefits. Do not assume an off-road activity, accommodation or evening event is included based on the pass name.

Prepare for desert weather and protect your devices

Strong sun, blowing sand and large day-to-night temperature changes can affect comfort and whether activities operate. Bring sun protection, wind protection and drinking water, and keep sand away from your phone and camera. Follow staff instructions for off-road vehicles, ziplines and ride activities. If weather, roads or equipment do not meet operating conditions, adjust your plan according to on-site suspensions.
