Confirm opening and visitor access before your visit
Seven Star Lake Desert Ecotourism Area lies in the heart of the Kubuqi Desert in Hanggin Banner. As of October 20, 2026, Ctrip lists it as temporarily closed, with the reopening date to be announced. A September holiday notice confirmed it was open during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival period, while Trip.com and Qunar still show regular hours or package details. Before traveling, ask the scenic area to confirm its opening date, visitor entrance and areas available to explore.
The appeal is in its dunes, lakes and desert ecology
Scenic-area information describes zones such as desert off-roading, a frontier oasis, a new herders’ village and a themed hotel. The area also has desert ecology and educational resources. Combine the sand-and-water scenery, ecology displays and activities that are open, basing your itinerary on the visitor areas available that day.

Choose your visit
Dunes and lakes | Stay on roads that are open
The sand sea, lake surfaces and vegetation make up the main landscape. Names such as “Lone Tree,” Love Lake and Dadaotu Lake appear in scenic-area descriptions and on maps. Roads, lake access and parking for each place may change, so follow on-site guidance and choose only areas that are open.
Ecology and learning | Check which facilities are open
Seven Star Lake has hosted events about desert restoration in the Kubuqi Desert, and scenic-area information also mentions desert plants, ecology displays and educational activities. Facilities and learning programs may not admit walk-in visitors every day, and some may require a separate ticket. Check the scenic area’s notice before going; do not assume every exhibition space is always open.
Off-road driving and rides | Follow current reservations and designated routes
Confirm current ticket details for desert off-roading, camel rides, boat trips and sand-surfing vehicles. Follow the operator’s instructions on available activities, vehicles and permitted areas. A self-drive ticket does not authorize you to drive onto closed lake shores or unpaved sand.
For a separate desert destination with cableway and island routes, see Whistling Dune Bay.
Build your day
Half-day route | Choose stops along the main road after confirming access
If the scenic area has resumed visitor service, first check the areas open to visitors, roads and stopping points at the entrance. If “Lone Tree,” Love Lake or Dadaotu Lake is within the open area, choose a stop along an approved road and return the way staff direct.
Full-day route | Visit two or three open areas in stages
If several areas are open that day, spend the morning among the lakes and ecological scenery, take a midday break where stopping is allowed, then choose one confirmed desert activity in the afternoon. Check separately whether the lakeside circuit, pasture and dune crossings are open. Before leaving the main road, ask which routes are permitted and how to return.
Overnight route | Confirm accommodation and evening activities first
If themed accommodation is available, confirm room availability, whether guests are accepted, what services are included, departure rules and the next day’s route before planning a sunset visit or overnight stay. Do not plan a night walk in lake, wetland or dune areas without permission.
Get there
Confirm the map destination using the official scenic-area name
Maps may show different labels, including “Seven Star Lake Desert Ecotourism Area” and “Kubuqi Desert Park · Seven Star Lake Tourist Area.” Before setting out, ask the scenic area to confirm the current visitor entrance and map destination, then check that it matches the gate for your ticket.
If driving, stay on roads that are open
The Hanggin Banner government introduction says the scenic area can be reached by highway. After arriving by car or hired vehicle, confirm which gate and internal roads are open to vehicles. Unpaved sand can trap a vehicle; do not drive onto pasture, wetlands or lake shores without permission. If you need a shuttle, confirm its schedule with the scenic area before traveling.
Know before you go
Check current prices and packages with the scenic area or ticket seller
Admission prices and package contents may change. When buying, use the scenic area’s current ticket information and confirm which areas, facilities, boat trips, off-road activities and child ticket policies apply, as well as the refund rules. Do not assume one product includes everything in another.
Bring supplies and protect the lakeside environment
The desert areas are spread out, and it may not be clear which restaurants, restrooms or rest stops are open. Ask before entering, and bring drinking water, a light snack, sun protection and wind protection. Follow signs along lake shores and wetlands; do not enter the water or chase birds. If roads or facilities are closed, adjust your route according to on-site instructions.
