Plan at a glance
A visit that ranges from history and culture to grassland experiences
The Genghis Khan Mausoleum Scenic Area brings together history and culture, intangible cultural heritage, local customs, grassland scenery and leisure activities. The mausoleum itself is one historical and cultural stop within the wider area. First decide what matters most to you: spend your time at the mausoleum to learn about its ritual traditions, or add other sections for grassland scenery and cultural activities.
Plan the mausoleum and grassland areas separately
The mausoleum and the Grassland Culture Tourist Area are about 3 km apart. Allow 1.5–2 hours for the mausoleum alone, or at least half a day for both. Confirm the transport options between the two areas before visiting, including whether any shuttle service is running that day.

Choose your visit
The mausoleum: Eight White Yurts and ritual architecture
The mausoleum is the main historical and cultural stop. Enter through the Qizhuang Shanhe (气壮山河) gate, climb the 99 auspicious steps and explore the yurt-shaped ceremonial halls. Learn about the Eight White Yurts (八白室), a tradition of portable ceremonial tents associated with the commemoration of Genghis Khan. Follow the photography rules inside the main hall.
Grassland Culture Area: treat performances as seasonal options
The Bayinchanghuge Grassland area has previously hosted performances such as “The Ordos Wedding” and “Galloping White Horse,” as well as activities including grass skiing and archery. Programs and activities can change with the season, weather and operating arrangements. A show may be paused or resume, so do not plan on it as a daily scheduled performance.
Choose activities based on what is open that day
If an official notice lists a performance that interests you, plan your visit to the grassland area around it. If no suitable show is scheduled, enjoy the grassland scenery or choose an activity that is open on site. Check signs and ticket details for the availability, additional fees and participation requirements for grass skiing, archery and other activities.

Build your day
Half-day short visit | Focus on the mausoleum
Enter through the mausoleum entrance and follow the gate, steps and main ritual buildings, then return according to the on-site visitor guidance. Take time to look at the architectural details rather than shortening your mausoleum visit to catch a show. If you are traveling with older adults or young children, decide whether to climb the full set of steps based on everyone’s stamina.
Half-day extension | Visit only the Grassland Culture Area
If grassland activities are your priority, first check the day’s entrance, activities and performance notices for the Grassland Culture Area, then navigate to the relevant section. Confirm the activity location, whether it is open and any entry requirements before heading to its theater or event venue.
Full-day route | Mausoleum first, then check the grassland program
Visit the mausoleum in the morning, then allow time to travel the approximately 3 km to the Grassland Culture Area. If an activity interests you, confirm its status and the transfer between areas in advance. If nothing suitable is scheduled, choose an experience that is open in the grassland area. Leave enough time for the return journey and verify shuttle details on site.
Get there
Choose the right destination on your map
“Genghis Khan Mausoleum” refers to the mausoleum itself; Trip.com lists its address near the junction of Yijinhuoluo Street and Bulag Road. “Genghis Khan Mausoleum Scenic Area” refers to the larger tourist area, with an address listed on Bulag Road in Ejin Horo Banner. Before driving, choose the area you intend to visit and check the map destination and entrance so you do not arrive at the other site and find it outside your plan.
Check the current bus route before traveling
The published Route 512 information shows service from the west side of Yiqi Bus Station to the Mausoleum Management Committee, passing the scenic area. The route information is older, and service dates, stops and the last bus may have changed. Before setting out, check the current operating day, boarding stop and return service. If you plan to visit another attraction as well, confirm the connection first.
Know before you go
Confirm which areas and activities a ticket covers
The mausoleum itself and the Genghis Khan Mausoleum Scenic Area are separate destinations; similar names do not mean a ticket covers both. Before booking, check which entrance and areas are included and whether performances or activities require a separate purchase. The “Ordos Tourist All-in-One Annual Pass” and “Inner Mongolia Culture and Tourism Pass” are also different products; check the eligible attractions and benefits for each one rather than assuming an ordinary admission ticket includes a show or activity.
Check official same-day notices for shows and reservations
“The Ordos Wedding” and “Galloping White Horse” have been offered as activities at the scenic area, but they are seasonal options and may be paused or resume. Check the scenic area’s official notice for the day of your visit. Add a performance to your itinerary only when that day’s information confirms an activity you can attend.
