Treat the boat ride as a key choice in the cave experience
Dongtian Xianjing centres on a sinkhole, cave, underground river and cliffside paths. Base admission does not include every boat or elevated attraction. Travellers who want the natural scenery while controlling spending can choose entry plus a one-way boat ride; the boat takes around 10–15 minutes and covers an important water section inside the cave.
Allow 2–3 hours for walking plus the boat, or about 3–4 hours with the magic carpet, glass viewing platform or slide. Cave ground is damp and the temperature is lower, so non-slip footwear and a light layer are more useful than extra photo equipment.
Park inside the attraction, not along the approach road
Drivers should navigate directly to “Dongtian Xianjing Parking Lot” and not stop at private roadside parking areas a few kilometres before the entrance. Those places are farther from the true gate and add both walking and cost. Taxis can reach the attraction from Yingde West Railway Station, but return transport should be arranged before entering the mountain area.
The attraction usually opens around 08:30–18:00. Entering early or taking the boat later in the afternoon can reduce peak waits. Holiday boat queues can be long, so do not leave the boat ride until the final period before a fixed departure.

Low-effort short route: boat into the cave, walk out
For limited time, older adults or travellers avoiding many stairs, go straight to the pier after entry, take the boat into the cave and sinkhole floor, then follow the path out, allowing about 1.5–2 hours. The boat reduces some walking, but you still need to move carefully through damp areas.
This route treats the boat as a deliberate paid choice rather than assuming every ticket includes it. If the boat queue is too long, use the walking route and make the sinkhole, waterfall and cave walls the focus instead.
2.5–3 hours: walk to the viewpoints, take the boat back
Travellers who are comfortable walking can follow the cliffside path, sinkhole inscription, Xianjing Waterfall, Lotus Seat and Erchongtian Viewpoint, then take the boat out. Climbing first and boating back suits visitors with normal stamina who want to see the cave’s full layers.
Travellers with knee discomfort or no interest in steep spiral stairs can use only gentler paths or the magic carpet, without forcing a climb to the high viewpoint. The glass platform, slide and zip line are additional attractions and do not replace the value of the sinkhole and underground river.

For boat entry, check the pier queue first
After entering, look at the boat wait. If it is manageable, take the boat into the cave first, see the sinkhole floor and walk out. This works for a lower-walking visit and deals with the most queue-sensitive attraction while energy is highest.
If the boats are crowded, walk the paths, waterfall and cliffside sections first, then return to the pier later. Do not skip damp-ground safety warnings or rush on stairs simply to catch a boat.
On the walking route, go up to the viewpoint and finish by boat
Enter by the cliffside path, then visit the sinkhole inscription, Xianjing Waterfall, Lotus Seat and Erchongtian Viewpoint before leaving by boat. Erchongtian overlooks the whole sinkhole and works as the high point of the walking route, rather than another queue beside the glass attractions.
The magic carpet, glass viewing platform and slide suit travellers reducing climbing or adding excitement. Before buying, confirm their positions and downhill direction so an attraction does not leave you needing to climb back up the main path.
Get there
Drive directly to the internal parking area
The drive from Guangzhou or Foshan takes about 1.5–2 hours; drive straight to Dongtian Xianjing’s internal parking area before entering. Do not be diverted by roadside parking touts or paid areas far from the gate, as they leave a longer walk to the visitor entrance.
Taxis can arrive from Yingde West Railway Station, but book the return because mountain buses are limited and signal and ride-hailing are not always reliable. There is still walking between parking, the gate and pier, so travellers with large items should travel light.
Use arrival timing to trade for shorter waits
Entering after opening or taking the boat later in the afternoon is often calmer than midday group periods. If you must catch transport, include the boat wait and walk back to parking in the total time rather than treating the listed visit duration as the exit time.
Rain and cave moisture make ground more slippery. Whether arriving by car or taxi, change into non-slip shoes and secure non-waterproof items before starting the paths.
Know before you go
Use extra charges to support the route, not to collect every attraction
The boat, magic carpet, glass platform, slide and zip line can each cost extra. On a limited budget, entry plus a one-way boat already covers the main sinkhole and underground-river experience. Add elevated attractions only if you want them; you do not need every paid facility.
The cave is around 22°C and the ground is often damp, so bring a light layer, non-slip shoes, insect repellent and water. During long holidays, boat queues can exceed an hour, making crowd avoidance more useful than last-minute ticket upgrades.
Leave flexibility for meals, stays and nearby routes
Farm restaurants in Jiulong Town can provide Jiulong tofu, tofu skin and chicken dishes, but do not compress meal timing around the boat. On a two-day trip, use Dongtian Xianjing as one main half-day attraction and choose Fenglin Xiaozhen or Huanghua Town’s open scenery for the other half.
Mountain accommodation is tighter at weekends. Travellers planning tea-garden sunset views or further cycling should arrange their overnight base and return vehicle early. Parking, boats and paths all follow the day’s safety and operating arrangements.
