This is a standalone gorge-cruise visit
Huangchuan Three Gorges centres on boat travel through Fairy Gorge, Lengjia Gorge and Yangtiao Gorge. The cruise takes around 40–60 minutes and suits a relaxed 1–1.5-hour scenic stop. Boats usually run from around 08:30 to 16:30, and the earliest or later-afternoon departures are generally easier for avoiding tour-group peaks.
Qingtian Glass Bridge is a separate, more active add-on: the walk across the bridge section is around 2.7 km and usually takes 2.5–3 hours in total. It does not fit within the rhythm of a simple cruise. Travellers uneasy with heights or wind, or those who do not want a long walk, can take only the gorge cruise.
See clear water in sunshine; see stronger waterfalls and flow after rain
In clear weather, the river and mountainsides are easier to see, making it a better time for reflections and the open gorge. After heavy rain, the water may turn yellow, but there can be more waterfalls and a stronger flow. These are different conditions for viewing the landscape; post-rain water colour should not be treated as a quality problem at the attraction.
Whatever the weather, pay attention to wind, rain and on-site operations for both the boat and glass bridge. If you plan to take photos, bringing bright-coloured clothing, sun protection and insect repellent is more convenient than trying to buy them at the riverside.

1–1.5 hours: take only the boat through the three gorges
Board at the cruise pier and travel continuously through Fairy Gorge, Lengjia Gorge and Yangtiao Gorge, then disembark for a short stop by the city wall or riverbank before returning. This suits visitors with older adults or children, or anyone who simply wants to add a water-based landscape stop to a Lianzhou itinerary.
On the boat, focus on the gorge walls, waterfalls and stone carvings rather than moving frequently around the deck for photographs. There are many mosquitoes near the shore and trees, so use insect repellent soon after disembarking and leave in line with your return transport.
2.5–3 hours: cruise plus Qingtian Glass Bridge
Cruise the Three Gorges first, then drive around seven minutes to Qingtian Glass Bridge. Walk across the bridge, through Water Curtain Cave and on to the viewing platform before returning. The bridge itself is around 520 m long, but the paths before and after it bring the walk to around 2.7 km, so decide together based on wind, comfort with heights and knee condition.
The bridge may move slightly in strong wind. Visitors uneasy with heights can have a short experience near the entrance or remain with the gorge cruise. Do not force the full route just because of a combined ticket, and do not treat the glass bridge as part of an Underground River visit.
Build your day
Let the middle of the cruise provide the best viewing section
After boarding, use a seat or a deck area with a clear view of the gorge without blocking the passage. Fairy Gorge has more waterfalls; Lengjia Gorge is high and deep with stone carvings; Yangtiao Gorge has a narrower water surface. The middle of the sailing is best for taking in both cliff walls and reflections; organise belongings closer to docking.
If the weather turns overcast or rainy, spend less time on an exposed deck and protect cameras and phones. After the cruise, use the parking area or pier as the meeting point rather than letting companions split up to unplanned riverside photo locations.
On the glass-bridge route, assess stamina before committing to the longer walk
Before reaching the bridge, check wind, opening status, footwear and how companions are feeling, then decide whether to cross. After the bridge, continue through Water Curtain Cave to the viewing platform as one continuous route. If you only want a brief experience, decide your turnaround point before starting.
The bridge and viewing platform have little shade and feel windier, so bring water, sun protection and a windproof layer. Do not stop for too long in the middle of the bridge or cross photography restrictions; leave normal passing space for other visitors.
Get there
Drive to the cruise pier; the bridge area needs a separate parking stop
Navigate to “Huangchuan Three Gorges Cruise Pier”; the drive from the Pearl River Delta takes around 3–3.5 hours. Some approach roads are rural roads, so take care when passing traffic and follow navigation prompts. The cruise parking area and the Qingtian Glass Bridge parking point are different, so allow time to drive, park again and change locations if doing both.
If a hotel stay or package includes parking benefits, confirm the proof required with the hotel or attraction first. Do not treat a private roadside charge point as the only option. Keep your parking receipt and note the vehicle location to make an evening departure easier.
Non-drivers should plan around boat departures and the final connection
Lianzhou Bus Station has minibuses towards Longtan Resort, but departures are limited. From a more distant high-speed rail station, a hired car or rental car is usually easier to control. Before reaching the pier, confirm the day’s boat departures and return connection rather than looking for a vehicle after the cruise finishes.
If you also visit the Underground River that day, use the roughly five-minute drive between the two places, not a walking connection. The most reliable order is the Underground River in the morning followed by the Three Gorges cruise; if weather changes, prioritise the boat departure already booked.
Know before you go
Weather, insects and wind at height all affect comfort
The shore and wooded areas have many mosquitoes, so bring insect repellent; the boat and glass bridge require sun and wind protection. After rain, expect more active waterfalls but accept murkier water. In sunshine, the water is clearer, giving a different photograph and physical experience.
The glass bridge does not suit people with severe fear of heights, limited walking ability or no wish to walk a longer distance in the wind. Treat it as an optional add-on: the cruise itself already provides the core gorge experience.
When pairing it with the Underground River, do not share ticket or timing expectations
Lianzhou Underground River and Huangchuan Three Gorges have separate ticketing, queues and parking. Their short distance does not make them quick stops. On a same-day plan, leave the morning for cave walking and the underground-river boat, then take the Three Gorges cruise in the afternoon, retaining a buffer for queues.
Beef noodles, Dongpi water dumplings, cured meats and river fish in central Lianzhou are easier to plan than a last-minute meal inside an attraction.
