Entry and opening hours
Tonghuai Guanyue Temple is at No. 186 Tumen Street in Licheng District, next to Qingjing Mosque. Admission is free and normally requires no reservation. Regular hours are 05:30–18:00; during major festivals such as New Year's Eve and the Spring Festival, access may extend into the night, but festival hours are not the everyday schedule.
This is an active temple with worship spaces and possible fortune-drawing activities. Early morning or later afternoon is useful for looking at the porcelain-cut roof decoration and halls with less pressure; the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month and the Spring Festival can be very crowded.
Visit length and who it suits
Allow about 40 minutes for the gate, main hall and principal roof decoration. First-time visitors interested in Minnan temple architecture or voluntarily observing the fortune-drawing process can allow about 1.5 hours. An evening visit depends on that day's lighting and activities.

Minnan temple architecture
The porcelain-cut dragons on the roof ridges, red-brick buildings and hall layout suit visitors interested in architectural details and local customs. Daylight is better for examining the decoration, while an evening opening may shift the focus to the overall roofline and the street outside.
Fortune drawing and local activities
Fortune drawing, moon-block divination, electronic paper offerings, free incense and performances outside the temple are all place- or date-specific. Visitors may take part voluntarily while respecting the order of the space, but these should not be presented as fixed tourist services or guaranteed results.
Build your day
The 40-minute short route
Enter through the main gate, look at the gate and roof ridges, then follow the on-site route through the main hall and the spaces associated with Mazu Gong before leaving toward Tumen Street. This suits visitors with limited time and does not require extending the visit for fortune drawing.
The 1.5-hour detailed route
You can visit Wucheng Hall, the courtyard, the spaces associated with the Earth God, Chongxian Hall and the Three Righteousness Temple, then decide whether to take part in fortune drawing or use another facility according to the day's arrangements. After leaving, you can walk to Qingjing Mosque and the Confucian Temple, but each site has its own ticket, hours and etiquette.
An evening or festival route
After 17:00, you may be able to see the illuminated roof decoration and the surrounding street. If you happen to visit during a festival such as Guan Gong's birthday, a performance may take place on the stage outside the temple. Lighting, programmes and festival access change, so keep time for the return journey.
Get there
Tumen Street entrance and parking
Take bus routes 3, 4, 6 or 14 to the “Guandi Temple” stop, then walk about one minute. Within the old city, Xiaobai costs about CNY 2 per person as a reference, and the temple is also an easy walk from Qingjing Mosque and the Confucian Temple.
Parking is limited in the old city. Consider the car park near the Workers' Cultural Palace or around Jinyu Lane, then walk for about 5–10 minutes. Do not leave a car at the temple entrance or on the narrow section of Tumen Street.
Know before you go
Clothing and order inside the halls
Wear a top with sleeves and bottoms below the knee. Avoid flip-flops, short skirts and bare-shoulder clothing; remove hats and sunglasses before entering the hall, and do not step on thresholds. Photography is strictly prohibited around the deity images, and flash or selfie sticks should not interfere with worship.
If you want to take part in fortune drawing, first observe how people and staff move through the process, then decide whether to join. Fortune drawing and interpretation are voluntary; when the temple is busy, do not block entrances, incense burners or passageways.
Crowds and spending
Free incense may be available at the entrance according to the temple's arrangements, so there is no need to buy expensive incense or candles from roadside sellers. Check the temple's own information for interpretation, electronic offerings and other services instead of accepting high-priced solicitations outside.
The first and fifteenth days of the lunar month and the Spring Festival are particularly busy. Before 09:00 or after 16:00 is usually easier for a visit. Qingjing Mosque is next door, but the two sites have different religious practices, hours and photography rules.
