Park scope and vehicle restrictions
Huanghua Mountain National Forest Park is in the central-western part of Nan'ao Island; enter from the east gate near Guicheng Square or leave from the west gate near Changshanwei Lighthouse. Adult entry is CNY 20, no reservation is required and reference hours are 08:30–17:30; the park is large with no shuttle service, requires a registered self-drive vehicle, and does not admit e-bikes, motorcycles or vehicles with more than 12 seats.
How much time to allow
Allow 3–4 hours for the east-gate drive via Guicheng Square, the North Tropic of Cancer Rainbow Road, Jiujian Mountain Tide Viewpoint and Longfeng Chengxiang Viewpoint. A light hike at Dajian Mountain takes around 2.5–3 hours, including about 20 minutes of stone steps uphill; do not combine both without enough water, parking time and daylight for the descent.

3–4 hours: easy self-drive route
Enter from the east gate, visit Guicheng Square, North Tropic of Cancer Rainbow Road, Jiujian Mountain Tide Viewpoint and Longfeng Chengxiang Viewpoint, then leave from the west gate. It suits families and visitors avoiding a long hike, but holiday queues at the Tropic of Cancer photo point can be long, so do not let one picture stop consume the route.
2.5–3 hours: Dajian Mountain light hike
Navigate to Dajian Mountain car park, climb the stone steps for around 20 minutes to the viewpoint over Nan'ao Bridge and the island’s mountain-and-sea landscape, then return the same way or on the short loop. The path is relatively clear but still needs trainers, sun protection and at least 1.5 litres of water.
Island-route connection
Changshanwei Lighthouse, Tianzai Geological Park, Rainbow Sea Viewpoint, Huanghua Mountain Forest Park and Qing'ao Bay can be linked in one day. This is self-drive only, so prioritise park entry and exit hours first and decide on the bay sunset from the day’s traffic.

Morning: forest, wishing tree and rainbow road
After entering from the east gate, visit Guicheng Square for the wishing tree, pool and stone turtle, then continue to the North Tropic of Cancer Rainbow Road. Light is softer around 09:30–10:30; if holiday waiting exceeds what works for the day, continue to the nearby viewpoint rather than forcing the queue.
Afternoon: Jiujian Mountain or Dajian Mountain views
In the afternoon, use Jiujian Mountain Tide Viewpoint and Longfeng Chengxiang Viewpoint for the mountain-sea edge and bay curve; 15:30–17:30 is better for sunset direction. If choosing Dajian Mountain, do not leave the descent, car collection and exit until after closing; the summit is exposed and windy, so bring a light layer.
Get there
Entry vehicle and parking
Only registered self-drive vehicles may enter the park, so confirm licence-plate registration before leaving; the east gate, west gate and Dajian Mountain car park are common starts. Space at the North Tropic of Cancer car park is limited, so use proper spaces and walk instead of blocking the photo point.
Public transport does not suit a deep visit
Island buses are infrequent and cannot reach the interior viewpoints, while e-bikes and motorcycles are not admitted, so public transport cannot complete this guide’s route. Without a self-drive car, choose a bus-accessible bay or lighthouse rather than seeking an unofficial ride at the gate.
Know before you go
Supplies, weather and walking
Convenience options in the park are limited, so bring at least 1.5 litres of water, snacks, sun protection and insect repellent; the summit is windy and exposed, so bring a light layer even on clear days. Stone paths and steps require trainers, and poor visibility or rain should shorten Dajian Mountain and exposed viewpoints.
Food and ticket arrangements
Tickets can be bought by scanning a code at the gate; the approved material states that a meal booked and registered at a park restaurant one day ahead may provide free entry, so confirm whether this arrangement still applies before relying on it. On holidays, preserve the forest route, viewpoints and a safe exit rather than spending the whole visit queuing at Rainbow Road.
