Fort and park hours
Shipaotai Park is at 20 Haibin Road in Jinping District, near the Haibin Seaview Promenade; enter from the west main gate or the arched bridge over the moat. The park is free, with gates open roughly 06:30–23:00; the Qilu Fort interior is open roughly 07:30–18:00 with last entry at 17:30, while the exhibition hall is usually open 09:00–17:00 and closed on Mondays.
How much time to allow
Allow around 1 hour for the fort and moat, or half a day if you also visit the exhibition, walk along the seafront and take the ferry. It works well as a historic stop between the old city and the Queshi area, and as a lighter architecture visit with children.

Around 1 hour: the fort highlights
Enter through the main gate, view the ring-shaped wall from the moat’s arched bridge, then walk the wave-shaped stone steps and ramparts before visiting the exhibition hall. If the exhibition hall is closed, you can still complete the exterior remains and moat circuit.
Half a day: seafront and ferry
Walk from Shipaotai Park to the Haibin Seaview Promenade, then continue to Guangchang Ferry; afterward, you can go to Cuoshi Scenic Area or Small Park. This is mainly a walking-and-ferry combination and works well when started in the afternoon for sunset by the water.
A history-focused route
For modern coastal-defence and port-city history, follow the fort exhibition with the Chaoshan Railway site, Open Port Culture Exhibition Hall and Qiaopi Museum. Confirm opening hours first and leave time for the taxi or walking transfers between the venues.
Build your day
Start with the ring-shaped defences
From the moat’s arched bridge, look at the fort’s water-ringed layout, then take the 27-step semicircular wave ramp to the ramparts. From above, see the ventilation and communication towers, old bronze cannon and wall materials; allow for the steps and changes in level rather than rushing through them.
Continue to the seafront
Visit the exhibition hall in the middle of the route if it is open, then continue to the adjacent Haibin Seaview Promenade. The 16:00–18:00 period works well for combining the fort’s stone walls, the seafront and sunset in one route.
Get there
Bus and taxi
Routes 19, 46, 103, K1 and K9 stop at Shipaotai Park; the walk from the stop is around 170 metres. A taxi from Shantou Railway Station takes roughly 15 minutes, and an e-bike can be convenient within the city, although the park itself is explored on foot.
Driving arrangements
Marked parking spaces near the park are limited, with a listed charge of CNY 5 per hour; do not rely on finding a space at the gate on public holidays. Xidi Parking Lot or Nanyue Building Multi-storey Car Park are alternatives within walking distance of the seafront.
Know before you go
Opening hours and crowds
Avoid Monday if you want the exhibition hall, and enter Qilu Fort before the 17:30 final-entry time; the outer park and the exhibition hall do not keep the same hours. The park is quieter around 07:30–09:00, while weekend afternoons are busier.
Clothing and conditions
The fort and seafront are exposed to sun, and mosquitoes can be present near the moat and grass, so bring sun protection and insect repellent. The visit includes steps and ramparts, making non-slip, light footwear more practical than high heels for photographs.
