Park area and opening hours
Zhongshan Park is at 5 Yuemei Road in Jinping District, with the Yuemei River around the grounds; the south gate is near Zhongshan Paifang, the east gate near Wangjiang Pavilion and the century-old pear tree, and the west gate near Shantou Museum. The park is free and needs no reservation, with reference hours of 06:00–23:00 year-round; the on-site zoo is separately ticketed, with a listed CNY 30 ticket and reference hours of 08:30–17:30.
How much time to allow
Allow 20–30 minutes for the paifang, Sun Yat-sen statue, Nine-Bend Bridge and rockery, or 1.5–2 hours to circle Yujian Lake, walk through the old banyan area and add the museum. It works for families, a gentler garden walk, or a green stop before the Small Park old-city route.

20–30 minutes: park essentials
Enter through the south gate, pass Zhongshan Paifang and the Sun Yat-sen statue, view Nine-Bend Bridge from a distance, then see the rockery relief before leaving through the south gate. This route works when time is very tight, but it does not replace a full lakeside walk.
1.5–2 hours: a garden half-day section
Walk from the south gate to the paifang, Nine-Bend Bridge, Yujian Lake, Haishi Rockery and old banyan area, then circle the lake to the north gate and continue to Shantou Museum. Slow down around the bridge and lake, and watch children carefully near the bridge deck and water.
Link it with the old city
After Zhongshan Park, walk or take a short ride to Shantou Museum, then continue to the Small Park arcades, Shantou Hotel and Xidi Park before taking the Guangchang Ferry around sunset. Put the park in the morning and the old city and Xidi in the afternoon and evening for a more comfortable walking rhythm.
Build your day
From the paifang to Nine-Bend Bridge
After entering through the south gate, see Zhongshan Paifang, which is around 18 metres high, then continue to the Sun Yat-sen statue and Nine-Bend Bridge. The bridge has pavilions and the lake reflects the lights after dusk; if time allows, make an extra circuit along the bridge and Yujian Lake.
Rockery, old trees and the museum
Continue into Haishi Rockery to see the relief Map of Shantou Port, then walk through the old banyan area toward the north gate. In winter, look for the dawn redwoods in Guanhua Garden; if you plan to enter Shantou Museum at the northwest corner, include its opening hours separately in your schedule.

Bus and city walking
Routes 1, 2, 5, 10, 11, 38 and 47, among others, reach Zhongshan Park or Shantou Museum stops, with a short walk to the entrances. The park is not far from old-city sights, making it suitable to link by walking or a short shared e-bike ride.
Driving and parking
Navigate to Shantou Museum Car Park or Zhongshan Park South Gate Car Park; the former is free but has limited spaces, while the south-gate car park has a listed charge of CNY 5–10 per visit. On public holidays, arrive before 09:00 where possible or use marked spaces outside the park rather than relying on people offering parking help by the roadside.
Know before you go
Timing and effort
The park covers around 309 mu, and a complete slow walk takes more time than the map suggests, so light shoes are more practical. You can see local morning exercise from 06:00–08:00, use 16:00–18:00 for lake light, and return after the lights come on to see the bridge and paifang; public-holiday afternoons are busier.
Families and safety
Nine-Bend Bridge, the lakeside and the rockery require close supervision of children; the zoo can be a family add-on, but it is small and should not take over the main park route. The park is mainly for easy walking, so use sun protection and water in summer, and take care on wet bridges and stone steps in rain.
