Entrances, scope, and time
Danxia Mountain World Geopark is in Renhua County, Shaoguan. It includes several zones, including Yangyuan Mountain, Zhanglao Peak, Xianglong Lake, and the Jinjiang River route. For navigation, use “Danxia Mountain World Geopark Northeast Gate” or “North Gate Visitor Service Center.” Each zone has its own access point, so do not plan the whole visit around a single entrance.
Plan for 1–2 days. A one-day visit means choosing between Yangyuan Mountain and Zhanglao Peak, while two days makes it easier to separate the sunset, sunrise, and lake routes. The park's public opening hours are 06:30–18:00, but shuttle and zone entry times may differ. For hiking, arriving before 08:00 is the safer plan.
Tickets and paid add-ons
The main ticket costs CNY 100, allows multiple entries within 48 hours, and includes the park shuttle. Students and seniors may receive half-price admission under the relevant concession. Yangyuan Mountain, Zhanglao Peak, and Xianglong Lake are zones within the same ticket system, not three separately ticketed scenic areas.
Water Danxia, the Xianglong Lake boats, the cableway, and evening products are separate choices. Water Danxia has different ticket types, including regular and higher-tier boats, so its prices should not be reduced to one figure. The cableway's maintenance and reopening schedule may still change, so plan a route that can be completed on foot.

Landscapes across several zones
Danxia Mountain is not about one peak. Its main sights include Yangyuan Stone at Yangyuan Mountain, the red cliffs and summit views of Zhanglao Peak, the reflections and mountain scenery around Xianglong Lake, and the red cliffs seen from the Jinjiang River on the Water Danxia cruise. The zones vary greatly in scale and walking difficulty, so first-time visitors should decide whether they care most about landforms, lake scenery, or high mountain views.
Cultural and natural highlights
Cliffside or woodland sites such as Jinshi Rock Temple and Biechuan Zen Temple sit alongside natural points including the Sunrise Pavilion, Ximei Village, Yinyuan Stone, and First Line of Heaven. Sunrise, sunset, cloud seas, and changing light all depend on weather and timing; treat them as possible bonuses rather than fixed parts of the visit.
Who it suits and what to prioritize
Families and visitors looking for a lower-effort day can prioritize the park shuttles, gentler viewpoints, and a boat ride. Outdoor enthusiasts can choose the Cloud Cliff Plank Walk, Dan Ladder Iron Cable, and the Zhanglao Peak loop. Photographers may want to focus on sunset at Yangyuan Mountain, sunrise at Zhanglao Peak, and views from the Jinjiang River. The main ticket covers several zones, but Water Danxia, the Xianglong Lake boat, the cableway, and evening products still need to be selected separately.

One-day condensed route
A possible sequence is “Yangyuan Mountain entrance → Baiyang Platform → Yangyuan Stone Viewpoint → Cloud Cliff Plank Walk or a gentler route → Ximei Village → short Zhanglao Peak route.” The Cloud Cliff Plank Walk and the 99-Step Ladder include steep slopes, narrow steps, and possible queues. Leave extra time for stops and congestion if you choose the challenging route.
Two-day highlights sequence
Spend the first afternoon at Yangyuan Mountain: see Yangyuan Stone first, then head to Ximei Village or Xuanji Platform according to the sunset time. Enter Zhanglao Peak early on the second morning, passing Banshan Pavilion, Jinshi Rock Temple, and the cliff inscriptions before deciding whether to continue to the Dan Ladder Iron Cable, Sunrise Pavilion, First Line of Heaven, Yinyuan Stone, and Xianglong Lake. The full Zhanglao Peak loop usually takes 4–5 hours and should not be treated like the easier short route.
Boat and evening combination
Water Danxia is a Jinjiang River cruise, while Xianglong Lake is boat transport within the Zhanglao Peak zone. They are different boat routes. If you add an evening product, first confirm when the daytime route ends and when the last shuttle leaves. Evening lighting or performances depend on the day's operation.
Get there
Driving and parking
Driving from the Pearl River Delta takes about 2.5–3.5 hours. Once there, choose a parking point near the Northeast Gate, North Gate Visitor Service Center, or Zhongshan Gate according to your route. Parking is approximately CNY 15 per day. During holidays, it is usually easier to park outside the busiest area and take the park shuttle into the zones.
Free park shuttles connect Yangyuan Mountain, Zhanglao Peak, and the boat piers. They are the main way to move around inside the park. Rather than repeatedly moving the car between zones, decide your entrance and return direction first to save time.
High-speed rail and buses
From Shaoguan Station, take the Danxia Mountain shuttle bus. The ride takes about 1 hour, with a reference fare of CNY 21–30. Buses from Shaoguan East Station also serve the scenic area, taking about 50 minutes with a reference fare of CNY 20. Once you arrive, you will still mainly rely on the park shuttles to move between zones.
Know before you go
Fitness, weather, and supplies
The Cloud Cliff Plank Walk, 99-Step Ladder, and Dan Ladder Iron Cable may require you to use both hands and feet. Stone surfaces become more slippery after rain. Wear shoes with good grip and bring hiking poles if useful. Supplies on the mountain are limited and can be expensive, so buy drinking water and simple food at the entrance or in town first.
Timing and uncertain operations
Do not assume that Zhanglao Peak's cableway has reopened simply because “reopening in August 2026” was mentioned, and do not assume that it will definitely remain closed. Build the trip around a walkable route. Boats, evening products, and shuttles all have last-service times, so leave time to descend and exit the park before dark. Do not continue onto unlit mountain paths after nightfall.
Etiquette and zone boundaries
Keep quiet in religious spaces such as Jinshi Rock Temple and Biechuan Zen Temple, and follow on-site photography rules. Yangyuan Stone, Yinyuan Stone, Zhanglao Peak, and Water Danxia are separate zones; understanding how they fit into the wider Danxia Mountain itinerary is more useful than treating them as one stop.
