Plan at a glance
Location and ticket
Yinyuan Stone is in the Zhanglao Peak zone of Danxia Mountain. Navigate to “Danxia Mountain Zhanglao Peak Scenic Area” or “Xianglong Lake Pier.” A standalone visit takes about 1–2 hours. Combining it with Zhanglao Peak and the Xianglong Lake loop usually takes 3–5 hours.
Yinyuan Stone is covered by the CNY 100 Danxia Mountain main ticket, which is valid for 48 hours and includes the park shuttle. There is no separate Yinyuan Stone admission ticket. The Xianglong Lake boat is optional; estimate about CNY 30 one way or CNY 50 round trip. The boat fare is separate from the main ticket.
Route characteristics
There are two ways to reach Yinyuan Stone: walking or taking a boat. Walking is usually cheaper, but the choice depends on the day's conditions and your energy. A boat can reduce the amount of return walking, but it is constrained by waiting times and the last departure. Moss, wet rock, and steep slopes are common in this zone, and rain makes the route noticeably harder.

A contrast with Yangyuan Stone
Yinyuan Stone is the representative column landform of the Zhanglao Peak zone and works well as a comparison with Yangyuan Stone. The two are in different zones, so one entrance or walking section cannot replace the other. The woodland around Yinyuan Stone is quieter than Yangyuan Mountain; the main experience is observing the relationship between the lake, mountains, cliffs, and landforms.
Xianglong Lake and First Line of Heaven
Xianglong Lake, Yudai Bridge, First Line of Heaven, and Youdong Tongtian offer different layers of lake, bridge, and narrow red-cliff scenery. The lake zone has plenty of shade and works well for avoiding the midday sun. First Line of Heaven and the cave sections require more care around slippery surfaces, low clearances, and changes in level.
Walking or taking the boat
Walking suits visitors who want to control the budget and take their time around the lake. The boat suits families with older adults or children and anyone who wants less lakeside walking. The difference is walking distance and timing, not that one choice is always better. Decide according to the weather, your energy, and the last boat.
Build your day
Short boat route
Follow “Zhanglao Peak entrance → Xianglong Lake Pier → boat to Yinyuan Stone Pier → walk 800 m → return to the pier → return according to the boat schedule.” If the wait for a boat is long, walking both ways may be more direct. Choose based on your group's energy and available time rather than assuming one option is always cheaper or better.
Longer hiking route
The hiking route can run “Jinshi Rock Temple → cliff inscriptions → Biechuan Zen Temple → Dan Ladder Iron Cable → Sunrise Pavilion → First Line of Heaven → Yinyuan Stone → Xianglong Lake.” Yinyuan Stone is not a flat stop that can be casually added to the Zhanglao Peak route; the slopes and descent time before and after it need to be part of the plan.
Photography and stops
The Yinyuan Stone viewpoint, Yudai Bridge on Xianglong Lake, and First Line of Heaven are different kinds of stops. Allow separate time for landform, lake, and narrow-gorge compositions. The lakeside and bridge may be slippery after rain, so do not step outside the railings or onto wet edges for a photo.
Get there
Reaching the Zhanglao Peak zone
Drive to the Zhanglao Peak parking area or Duanshi Village; parking is approximately CNY 15 per day. During holidays, park outside and take the park shuttle. From Shaoguan, take the Danxia Mountain shuttle bus after arriving by high-speed rail, then use the free park shuttle to reach Zhanglao Peak and Xianglong Lake.
After entering, confirm the day's boat-pier direction and return point before choosing a loop or an out-and-back route. Shuttles connect Zhanglao Peak, Yangyuan Mountain, and the boat piers, but they do not replace the effort and time required for the mountain sections.
Know before you go
Boat times, conditions, and fares
Check the day's pier information for one-way and round-trip fares and the last boat. Use CNY 30 one way and CNY 50 round trip only as estimates. The walk from the pier to Yinyuan Stone may be shorter than a promotional route description suggests, but follow the open route and current conditions. Do not use an unopened shortcut to avoid the boat fare.
Equipment and safety
Moss and slippery rock are common on the mountain paths, and trekking poles help on descents. Shoes with good grip are essential. Supplies and toilets are limited, so bring enough water and some food. Before entering a steep section, decide whether you need to shorten the route.
A two-day option
The Danxia Mountain main ticket is valid for 48 hours, so Yinyuan Stone can be part of a Zhanglao Peak sunrise route on the second day. With only one day, finish the main route at either Yangyuan Mountain or Zhanglao Peak first rather than trying to collect every minor stop and running short of energy or return time.
