Plan at a glance
Route levels and time
Guangdong Grand Canyon is in Dabu Town, Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County. Choose among three levels: the valley-rim leisure route takes about 1–2 hours, the highlights route about 2.5–3.5 hours, and the full crossing about 4–5 hours. The scenic area is open 08:00–17:00, entry ends at 16:00, and arriving before 14:00 is recommended.
The reference ticket price is CNY 50–55 on regular days and about CNY 65 on holidays. Student tickets are approximately half price. The high-altitude canyon performance is included, but may be cancelled in rain. The sightseeing elevator costs about CNY 50 one way and can replace the Sky Ladder.
Fitness and safety
The full route includes the 1,386-step Sky Ladder, about 5–6 km of walking, and approximately 600 m of cumulative ascent. It should not be treated like the leisure route. Supplies and mobile signal are limited in the valley, and steps become slippery after rain. Visitors with knee problems or insufficient fitness should not force themselves to complete it.

Canyon and waterfalls
The main sights are the long fissure canyon, Tenglong Waterfall, deep pools, and First Line of Heaven. The rim route is good for seeing the landform as a whole. The valley floor brings you closer to the cliffs, spray, and waterfalls, but also adds walking, slippery surfaces, and supply pressure.
Sky Ladder or elevator
The 1,386-step Sky Ladder is a high-intensity experience with steep slopes and a heavy demand on the knees. The sightseeing elevator and Kilometer Gallery offer less strenuous alternatives. Decide whether to take the Sky Ladder according to your fitness, knee condition, and the day's temperature; it is not a required section for every visitor.
Who it suits and weather
The rim route suits families and low-effort visitors. The highlights route suits most first-time visitors with basic walking ability. The full crossing is better for experienced hikers. Waterfall volume, rainbows, and the high-altitude performance depend on the weather, so the experience changes between sunny and rainy days.
Build your day
Leisure sequence
“Valley Gate Plaza → Feihong Bridge → Kilometer Gallery → Echo Valley → return” works when the canyon is one part of a half-day itinerary. Confirm at the entrance whether the high-altitude performance is running or has been cancelled for weather. Do not wait for a show and miss your return.
Highlights sequence
The highlights route can run “First Line of Heaven → Juxian Platform → Fairy Maiden Pool → Peach Blossom Pool → Panlong Pool → Huanglong Pool → Tenglong Waterfall → Kilometer Gallery → exit.” The valley stops require continuous walking. The pools are for viewing or briefly stepping in the water, not swimming.
Get there
Driving and fuel
Driving from the Pearl River Delta takes about 2.5–3.5 hours. The final 68 km are mountain roads with many bends and narrow sections, so drive in daylight. Fill the tank in Ruyuan County or Datang Town before heading into the mountains. Visitor-center parking is approximately CNY 5 per day on weekdays and CNY 10 per day on holidays.
Public transport
After arriving by high-speed rail, go first to Ruyuan Bus Station, then take a bus to Dabu Town; the ride takes about 1.5 hours. You can also transfer from the Shaoguan East Station direction. Bus frequency and return waits affect how long a route you can complete, so public-transport visitors are better suited to the rim or highlights route.
Know before you go
Water, shoes, and signal
Valley supplies are limited and expensive. Bring 1.5–2 liters of drinking water and dry food. Shoes with good grip are essential; trekking poles and knee supports can help on the longer route. Some valley sections have no mobile signal, so download an offline map and do not enter the full crossing alone.
Weather and performance
Waterfalls may be larger during the spring and summer rainy season, but steps and moss are more slippery after rain. The high-altitude performance may be cancelled in wet weather. Entry ends at 16:00, and the 16:00 show may be the last of the day, so do not delay entry until the cutoff.
Prohibited activities
Fairy Maiden Pool, Peach Blossom Pool, and similar water areas are for viewing and brief wading only; swimming is prohibited. Follow railings and on-site instructions around the Sky Ladder, waterfall edges, and slippery steps. The sightseeing elevator is a lower-effort alternative, not a facility guaranteed to operate at all times.
