Cross-province route and time
Meiguan Ancient Post Road connects the Nanxiong side in Guangdong with the Dayu side in Jiangxi. It is an ancient cross-province route. An easy round trip takes about 2–3 hours; a full crossing usually takes about 2–2.5 hours. Opening hours are 08:30–17:30, the Nanxiong side closes around 18:30, and the road has no continuous lighting. Aim to descend before 17:00.
The reference ticket price is CNY 40 on the Nanxiong side and CNY 20 on the Dayu side. Parking and entrance rules differ. If you enter on one side and leave on the other, confirm the day's cross-zone policy and return transport separately; crossing through the other exit is not always available.
Who it suits
The route is about the cobbled road, Meiguan Pass Tower, the Guangdong–Jiangxi boundary, and historic remains along the way. Long periods on the stones require good grip and comfortable knees. After rain, smooth-soled casual shoes are especially unsuitable.

The ancient post road
The main sights are the relatively well-preserved cobbled post road, Meiguan Pass Tower, and the historic space around the Guangdong–Jiangxi boundary. It is not just a single viewpoint. The road, tower, old trees, and roadside remains together create the experience of walking through history.
Two provinces, local history, and revolutionary heritage
Inscriptions on both sides of the tower, the Chen Yi poetry stele corridor, General Yu's Shrine, and remains connected with the Northern Expedition give the route local and transport history as well as revolutionary heritage. The emphasis differs by entrance, so consider the cultural subjects you want to see and how you will return before choosing the Guangdong or Jiangxi side.
Season and visitor fit
The old plum grove may be in bloom from December to February, but the timing depends on temperature. The route is still worthwhile as a historic walk outside the flowering season. It suits visitors interested in culture, photography, and moderate walking. Visitors with knee problems or little tolerance for cobbled paths should choose a shorter plan.

Pass tower and post road
Use Meiguan Pass Tower as the midpoint: walk from the entrance to the tower first, then decide according to your energy whether to continue to the steles, pavilions, and old trees. The tower opening is a good place to view inscriptions on both sides. Slow down on the cobbles; city walking speed is not a realistic estimate here.
Seasonal route
The old plum grove usually has its main viewing season from December to February, but a full bloom is not guaranteed. Outside the season, Meiguan remains a historic walking route. Do not build the entire value of the trip around the plum blossoms.

Driving
On the Guangdong side, navigate to the Nanxiong entrance of “Meiguan Ancient Post Road Scenic Area”; parking is approximately CNY 10 per car. On the Jiangxi side, navigate to the Meiguan Scenic Area Visitor Center in Dayu County, where parking is free and the car can stop closer to the trailhead. Choose a side with the ticket, crossing direction, and return journey in mind.
Public transport
You can first reach Nanxiong Bus Station and take a bus toward Meiguan. Another option is to reach Ganzhou West Station and transfer to Dayu County transport. Buses from Nanxiong and public transport in Dayu are not frequent, so confirm the departure time before returning. Otherwise, you may be waiting long after the trail closes.

Tickets and exits
“Enter from Dayu and leave from Nanxiong” is a common itinerary, but cross-zone rules, extra tickets, and exit management can affect whether it works. The two sides have different tickets, and a cross-exit arrangement is not unconditional. Confirm the day's rule at the entrance.
Weather, shoes, and return
The cobbles become very slippery after rain. Some sections receive strong sun in summer, while winter plum-viewing trips require warm clothing. There are no trail lights, and continuing uphill after 17:00 is not suitable. Bring water and a small amount of food, and allow extra waiting time for public transport on the Dayu side.
Food and local culture
Nanxiong food is often spicy. Order dishes such as Meiling goose or sour-bamboo-shoot duck according to your tolerance. Food can be part of the route, but do not shorten the descent and return safety margin to fit in a meal.
