Plan at a glance
A 1.5-kilometre open water-town street
Cangqiao Straight Street is in Yuecheng District, Shaoxing. The northern entrance is near Shengli West Road and City Square, while the southern entrance is near Renmin West Road. The street has no enclosing wall or unified checkpoint and is open all day. It is about 1.5 kilometres long: a quick walk takes about 1 hour, while first-time visitors can allow 2-3 hours. Photographers and visitors who want to sit by the water should allow more time.
Stone-paved streets, riverside homes, Baozhu Bridge and Fu Bridge are the main features of the walk. Internal venues such as the Xu Wei Art Museum are usually open 8:30-17:00; they may close on Mondays and require an ID check. Street shops and restaurants keep their own hours, which cannot be inferred from the all-day access to the street.
Street walking and separate activities
Cangqiao Straight Street is free to enter. Wupeng boats, internal venues, teahouses and shops operate separately. For a water-level view, ask at the City Square pier about Wupeng boat times and prices; the boat ticket is not included in the free street walk.

Old bridges, waterways and everyday lanes
Cangqiao Straight Street suits first-time visitors to Shaoxing's water towns, city walkers and anyone interested in everyday old-city life. Baozhu Bridge and Fu Bridge show the relationship between the waterways, old houses and bridges. Qianguan Lane, Houguan Lane and the side alleys away from the main street are quieter and better for observing residential homes and riverside spaces at a slower pace.
The Xu Wei Art Museum offers a modern building and exhibition experience alongside the traditional street. Its opening status, ID requirements and exhibition content follow the museum's arrangements. In mid-to-late April, the chinaberry trees near the bridge by Kong Yiji Restaurant may bloom, but the flowering period and viewing conditions depend on the season and weather.
Water views and evening walking
A Wupeng boat can add a different view to the land walk, but it is a separate activity. Confirm the price, waiting time and operation on the day. Visitors who enjoy evening scenes can walk along the river at dusk to see the lights and reflections; confirm separately whether food businesses, teahouses and shops are open.
Build your day
1-hour short route
With limited time, enter through the northern entrance, pass Baozhu Bridge and Fu Bridge, stop for photographs in the middle section of Cangqiao Straight Street, and continue toward the southern exit. Keep the route focused on bridges and waterways, without adding the Xu Wei Art Museum or a Wupeng boat.
2-3-hour walking route
First-time visitors can start at the northern entrance, pass Baozhu Bridge, the small lanes off the pedestrian street, Fu Bridge, the Chen Qiaoyi Historical Materials Hall, Shimen Bridge and Zuoyifang, then add the Xu Wei Art Museum according to its opening hours before continuing along the river to the southern exit. Qingteng Study and the Xu Wei Art Museum can be nearby cultural stops, but each has its own hours, reservation and charges, so confirm before adding them.
When the main street is crowded, use Qianguan Lane, Houguan Lane or a nearby side alley, then return to the riverside route. This keeps the sense of local life while reducing repeated stops in the commercial section.
Evening route
In the evening, walk from the northern entrance toward Fu Bridge, photographing the changing sky and riverside buildings before continuing south. If you want a boat ride or exhibition visit, place it within the remaining operating hours. End the photography session when riverside spaces become slippery or crowded at night.
Get there
Metro, buses and cycling
Take Shaoxing Metro Line 1 to City Square Station and walk about 10 minutes to the street. Buses 177, 18, 23 and 28 stop nearby. Taxis and shared bicycles are convenient within the city, but roads near the old street are narrow and vehicles must follow the one-way direction.
The northern and southern entrances suit different walking directions. If you want to visit the Xu Wei Art Museum or Qingteng Study, confirm their opening status first and choose the entrance closer to the target.
Driving and parking
Roads near Cangqiao Straight Street are narrow, and the old street itself is one-way, so driving directly to the street entrance is inconvenient. Park at the Joy City shopping mall or City Square Car Park, then walk in. Temporary roadside parking can obstruct traffic and may result in a ticket.
Know before you go
Stone lanes, narrow alleys and crowds
The district has stone paving, bridges, steps and narrow lanes. Wear flat, non-slip shoes, and consider detours if you are using a stroller. Weekend and holiday afternoons are busier; 7:00-9:00 is better for photographing bridges and waterways, while exhibition halls should follow their own opening hours.
The main street has more commercial shops, while residential lanes are quieter. Respect residents when entering side lanes, do not stand outside doorways for long and do not stop in the middle of a one-way road for photographs.
Shopping and food
Local products, huangjiu and snacks are sold by different businesses, so prices may not be standard. Ask before buying and confirm the packaging method. A plan built around walking and occasional rests works better here than an itinerary based on a fixed restaurant or snack list.
The street, internal venues and Wupeng boats are arranged separately. The Xu Wei Art Museum, Qingteng Study and riverside shops may or may not be open on the day, so follow the same-day conditions.
