District scope and access
Pingjiang Road Historic District runs from Ganjiang East Road in the south to Northeast Street in the north, with a main street about 1,606 metres long. The district is free and open all day, with no single ticket or reservation for the whole area; shops, museums, gardens and rowing boats keep separate arrangements.
Timing and separately ticketed stops
Walking only the main street usually takes 1.5–2 hours; adding side lanes, Couple's Retreat Garden and the museums can fill 4–6 hours. The Chinese Kunqu Opera Museum and Suzhou Pingtan Museum are free and usually open Tuesday–Sunday from 09:00 until 16:30 or 17:00, with Monday closed; Couple's Retreat Garden is separate, costs CNY 25 and opens 07:30–17:00, with last entry at 16:30.

Main street, side lanes and waterways
Pingjiang Road is good for seeing the old city's parallel street-and-canal layout, historic bridges such as Sipuo Bridge and Huoxiangshi Bridge, and Kunqu and Pingtan culture around Zhongzhangjia Lane. For a quieter walk, turn into Daru Lane, Xuanqiao Lane and Dingxiang Lane; if you want time on the water, choose a rowing boat when the day's service allows.
Who it suits
Visitors who enjoy historic districts, performing arts, photography and Suzhou snacks can take their time here, while first-time visitors can use Pingjiang Road to finish a day of garden visits. The main street has many shops, while the side lanes offer a closer look at local life; evening lanterns change the atmosphere, but shops, museums and boats do not share one schedule.
Build your day
A 2–3 hour route
Enter from the south, see the Pingjiang Road stone marker and Sipuo Bridge, then walk to Zhongzhangjia Lane for the Kunqu or Pingtan museum. Continue through Dingxiang Lane to Huoxiangshi Bridge, choose a rowing boat if time allows, and leave from the north; walking south to north reduces backtracking, and the northern end leads toward Humble Administrator's Garden and Suzhou Museum.
A 4–6 hour route
Start at the south entrance and add about 1.5 hours at Couple's Retreat Garden, then return to Zhongzhangjia Lane and the main street before exploring Daru Lane, Xuanqiao Lane and other side lanes. If you also want Humble Administrator's Garden or Suzhou Museum, treat them as separate stops and confirm their reservation and ticket times independently.
Get there
Metro and entrances
For the south entrance, take Metro Line 1 or 6 to Lindunlu Station (临顿路), Exit 5, and walk about 3 minutes. Another option is Line 1 to Xiangmen Station (相门), Exit 3, followed by an 800-metre walk; the north entrance is near Baita East Road and connects well with the Northeast Street attractions.
Driving and walking
The old-city roads are narrow, and the core district is not suitable for driving. Drivers can first confirm parking at Pingjiang Experimental School, Dongyuan Parking Lot or the lot beside the Yinguo Lane fire station, then walk or use the metro; parking arrangements may change with the date and local controls.

Quiet hours and venue schedules
Weekdays from 07:00 to 09:00 are usually better for quiet walking and photographs, while holidays can be busy all day. The district's all-day access does not mean museums, gardens, shops and boats are open all day, so check each one separately.
Spending and street services
Ask for the price and service details before buying fruit, snacks or flowers, or joining a photography or styling service; along the street, choose restaurants with clear pricing. If you want less commercial activity, spend more time in the side lanes, beside the bridges and along the canals.
