Plan at a glance

A good choice for an evening visit

Hetou Old Street (河头老街) is at 66 Yunhe West Road (运河西路) in Fengnan District (丰南区), Tangshan (唐山). Its main entrances are the North Gate (北门) and Southeast Gate (东南门). First-time visitors can enter through the North Gate and follow a route through Dongshi Street (东市街), Shuishang Market (水上市集), Huaiyuan Bridge (怀远桥) and Shengshi Wharf (盛世码头).

A full evening visit takes about 3–4 hours, including time to explore the lanes, eat and catch a show if you choose. If you also want to visit the Canal Culture Museum (运河文化博物馆) or Xiaoshan World (小山大世界), allow half a day.

Opening hours and entry

Reference hours are 14:00–22:30, with last entry at 21:30. Adult admission on weekends and public holidays is listed at about RMB 98; weekday prices may vary. Before setting out, check the Hetou Old Street Travel mini program (河头老街旅游) for same-day ticketing, opening and reservation details.

Children under 1.2 m and adults over 70 are listed as eligible for free admission. Check the ticketing page for accepted documents and the current policy. Parades and shows may also change by date, so check the day’s program before entering.

Live shows require a separate ticket

Flower-boat parades, fish-lantern processions and the street-opening ceremony are listed as regular admission activities. The live show Tangwang Dongzheng (《唐王东征》) requires a separate ticket, listed at RMB 38–58. Showtimes and performance slots may change; check the start time and seating arrangements when you buy your ticket.

Interactions and processions on Dongshi Street

Dongshi Street has character interactions, lanterns and fish lanterns, and flower-boat parades and fish-lantern processions pass through the area. Some interactive games award silver tokens that can be exchanged for snacks. Activities and game availability depend on the day’s arrangements.

Shuishang Market for dinner and river views

Shuishang Market is a convenient place for dinner. Its second-floor viewing deck looks over the river and water, while a third-floor terrace at the far end of the market offers an elevated view of the streets. Check on site to see whether the lotus lanterns and boat rides are operating.

Huaiyuan Bridge, Deshengmen (德胜门) and Shengshi Wharf

Huaiyuan Bridge and its waterside walkway frame the river, lights along both banks and the depth of the old street. From Deshengmen Bridge, you can photograph the red-lit wall; from the water’s edge below, you can capture reflections. Shengshi Wharf and Lotus Square (莲花广场) are the main viewing areas for the lighting ceremony. Its timing varies with the date and event schedule.

Xiaoshan World and the live show

Xiaoshan World brings together period-style lanes, gateways and old objects, making it a good stop for daytime detail shots or a brief visit. The live production at the Tangwang Dongzheng Theater features equestrian acts, fire-pot performances and molten-iron sparks. Visitors who want to see the full show need to buy a separate ticket.

Build your day

A 3–4-hour evening route

Enter through the North Gate and start with the interactions on Dongshi Street. Continue to Shuishang Market for a meal, then cross Huaiyuan Bridge toward Shengshi Wharf, and finish at the Tangwang Dongzheng Theater if the showtime works for you. Plan your arrival around the performance and adjust your meal and time at the market accordingly.

A relaxed half-day visit

With half a day, start at the Canal Culture Museum and Xiaoshan World. Head to Dongshi Street and Shuishang Market in the afternoon, then walk from Huaiyuan Bridge toward Shengshi Wharf after dark. This combines the daytime streets, evening scenery and a show in one visit.

Leaving after the show

Arrive early for popular performances. If you are skipping the show, you can end your evening around Shengshi Wharf. The North Gate and Southeast Gate are both main entrances; follow on-site directions when choosing an exit. If you are driving or taking a ride-hailing car, confirm where you parked or where your evening pickup point will be.

Get there

From Tangshan Railway Station (唐山站)

A taxi from Tangshan Railway Station to Hetou Old Street takes about 20 minutes. For a private car or ride-hailing trip, set the destination to “Hetou Old Street North Gate (河头老街北门)” or “Dongfang Shenlong Amusement Park (东方神龙乐园) North Parking Lot (北停车场)” to reach the main entrance area directly.

Driving, parking and entrances

The North Parking Lot is listed at RMB 2 per hour, capped at RMB 10 per day. Fees may change, so check the posted notice when you enter. Roads on the south side of the attraction may be congested after about 16:30; drivers can use the North Gate and its parking lot.

Know before you go

Ticket prices, shows and photo times can change

Parades, show schedules and lighting times vary by date and weather, and popular shows require an early arrival. 17:50–18:20 is a commonly suggested window for photos; the lighting ceremony around 18:30 can also shift with the season and event schedule.

Stone paving and crowds

Most of the lanes are paved with stone. Flat, grippy shoes are more comfortable than heels for a long walk. Crowds may gather around performances and popular photo spots on weekends and public holidays; avoid stopping in the main walking routes.

Snacks and a same-day visit to Tangshan Banquet (唐山宴)

You can have dinner at Shuishang Market or try local snacks such as lǘròu menzi huoshao (驴肉焖子火烧), a local stuffed flatbread, and Xiaoshan fried rice cakes (小山炸糕). Tangshan Banquet is a separate indoor food venue about 11 km away, roughly a 20-minute drive. If combining the two on the same day, plan your meal at Tangshan Banquet according to its hours that day, then leave Hetou Old Street for an evening visit; actual travel time depends on traffic.
