Enter through the Kailuan Museum (开滦博物馆) main entrance
Kailuan National Mine Park (开滦国家矿山公园) is at 54 Xinhua East Road (新华东道) in Lunan District (路南区), Tangshan (唐山). Visitors enter through the main entrance of the Kailuan Museum. The coal-mining history exhibits, underground experience and railway-history museum are all within the same industrial-heritage area.
Reference hours are 08:30–17:30 Tuesday through Sunday. The park is closed on Mondays, with possible exceptions for public holidays. Confirm the last ticket-sale and admission times on the day of your visit; do not plan your arrival based only on the posted closing time.
Buy tickets on site and compare ticket types

Choose your visit
Mining records at the Kailuan Museum
The museum displays objects and records from the history of Kailuan, including old share certificates from the Kaiping Mining Bureau (开平矿务局) and sheepskin-bound account books. The steps in front of the main building are suitable for low-angle photos. The exhibits will interest visitors curious about China’s modern industrial history.
See a reconstructed coal face underground
The underground experience descends about 60 m and includes reconstructed coal faces and mine scenes. Some areas are dimly lit and include simulated figures. If a child in your group is easily startled by darkness or figures, learn about the route before deciding whether to take part.
The China Railway Source Museum
The three-museum ticket includes the China Railway Source Museum, with a replica of the “Dragon” locomotive (龙号机车) and steam locomotives on display. Outside, the tracks, monument and Tangxu Railway Scenic Footbridge (唐胥铁路景观天桥) are photo spots for railway and industrial heritage.
Build your day
A 1–1.5-hour short visit
Start at the Kailuan Museum and see the main exhibits. Then, depending on your ticket and that day’s operations, take the underground mine experience before returning to the surface to leave. If you rent an audio guide, confirm where to return it and whether you need to go back to the first floor.
A complete 2–3-hour route
Visit the Kailuan Museum, the underground experience, the China Railway Source Museum and the Tangxu Railway Scenic Footbridge in that order. Only the three-museum ticket includes the Railway Source Museum; when buying tickets, confirm what is included for the underground experience and guide service.
The underground ride and guide arrangements
Queues for the underground train or experience areas may reach about one hour on public holidays. Ask at the ticket office whether equipment is operating, how the ride works and whether there is an extra charge.
Get there
By bus, train or car
Take buses 3 (3路), 11 (11路), 16 (16路), 17 (17路), 60 (60路) or 118 (118路) to the “National Mine Park” stop (国家矿山公园站). A taxi from Tangshan Railway Station (唐山站) takes about 15–20 minutes. For driving, navigate to “Kailuan National Mine Park.” There is a parking lot; check on site for available spaces and fees.
Plan separately from South Lake Ecological Park (南湖生态公园)
South Lake Ecological Park is a separate operating area. Kailuan National Mine Park’s entrance is at 54 Xinhua East Road, and admission is sold separately. If visiting both, navigate and buy tickets for each separately and follow their respective hours. Free entry to South Lake does not include the mine park.
Know before you go
Last admission and Monday hours
Check the park’s notice for the last ticket-sale and admission times. Review the entrance notice when planning your arrival.
Underground conditions and queues
Some underground train cars are enclosed and offer limited views outside; the experience includes scenes along the route and screen content. Queues can be long on public holidays. Visitors sensitive to confined spaces, or families with children who may be frightened by dark areas and simulated figures, can choose a route through the above-ground exhibits instead.
Photography, guides and costs
The museum’s main building, the underground Red Time and Space Gallery (红色时空画廊), vintage locomotives and railway bridge are common photo spots. Check the museum’s rules for photography in indoor and underground areas. Before buying tickets, confirm the prices for the basic ticket, three-museum ticket, audio guide and underground train separately.
