Plan at a glance

Take a ferry from Sanbei Mingzhu Pier (三贝明珠码头)

Yuetuo Island (月坨岛) is in Laoyujian Village (捞鱼尖村), Matouying Town (马头营镇), in Leting County (乐亭县), Tangshan (唐山). Visitors take a ferry from Sanbei Mingzhu Pier; cars stay in the pier parking lot. Set your navigation to “Sanbei Mingzhu Pier.” Driving from Beijing (北京) takes about 3–4 hours. On the island, get around on foot, by sightseeing bus or by one of the permitted rental options.

Admission and round-trip ferry tickets are usually sold together. The reference adult price is about RMB 110–120, and tickets usually require visitors to register under their real names. Visitors using passports or other documents instead of a mainland Chinese resident ID card should confirm before purchase which documents the platform accepts and how manual verification works. When searching for “Tangshan International Tourism Island” (唐山国际旅游岛), make sure the product names Yuetuo Island and Sanbei Mingzhu Pier as the destination.

Ferry arrangements differ for day visitors and overnight guests

For day visitors, inbound sailings are listed between 08:30 and 16:00, with the last return ferry listed at 17:00. The crossing takes about 20–30 minutes, and sailings may change with passenger numbers. Typical island hours are listed as 08:30–17:00. If you have booked accommodation and want to stay for the night views, confirm evening access with both your accommodation provider and the pier.

Choose your visit

Overwater cabins and boardwalks

The clusters of wooden cabins over the water, connected by boardwalks, are a main island attraction. Soft morning and evening light is good for photographing the cabins and water. Overnight guests can continue exploring after checking in; day visitors need to plan their stay around the return ferry.

The beach and photo spots

The beach is a place to play in the sand and sunbathe. Swings and heart- or music-note-shaped photo frames make good backdrops with the sea behind them. Swimming, tidal-flat foraging and other water activities depend on the tides, weather and the areas open that day.

Dutch-style Street (荷兰风情街) and sunset over the sea

The colorful buildings on Dutch-style Street make good portrait backgrounds. The west side of the island offers views of sunset over the sea, and the lit-up overwater cabins are a night-time photo subject. Staying after sunset is suitable for guests with confirmed accommodation and evening ferry arrangements.

A relaxed seaside visit for couples, friends and families

Couples, groups of friends and families with children can enjoy an easy visit to the beach, boardwalks and cabin areas. Distances on the island are long. Visitors with older adults or children, or anyone who does not want to walk the whole way, can consider the sightseeing bus; check whether it is running and where it stops that day.

Build your day

A 1.5–2-hour route for day visitors

After arriving on the island, day visitors can take the sightseeing bus or walk to the beach, pass the swings and photo frames, then follow the seaside boardwalk to see the overwater cabins. Return to the pier for the confirmed ferry back.

An overnight stay

After checking in, use one of the permitted rental options on the island to explore the island road and visit Dutch-style Street and other sights. Spend the afternoon at the beach swimming or exploring the tidal flats, then watch the sunset from the west side of the island. After dinner, you can wait for the cabin lights to come on. This route is only for guests with confirmed accommodation and nighttime ferry arrangements.

Choosing transport on the island

Boardwalks connect the main areas, but walking around the island can be tiring. A four-seat bicycle is listed at about RMB 150–200 per day; the sightseeing bus is about RMB 20 one way or RMB 30 round trip; electric scooters are about RMB 120 per hour. Before renting, confirm the route, billing period and return point.

Get there

Driving and parking

Driving from Beijing takes about 3–4 hours. Navigate directly to Sanbei Mingzhu Pier, which has a large parking lot listed at about RMB 20 per visit. Cars are not allowed on the island; park first and take your belongings onto the ferry.

Train and onward connections

Take a train to Tangshan Railway Station (唐山站), then transfer to a coach or tourist shuttle to Leting County and take a taxi to Sanbei Mingzhu Pier. Stations, schedules and transfer points may change; confirm the final leg and your return trip before setting out.

Know before you go

Ferry tickets, the last boat and weather

Ferry schedules may change with passenger numbers and weather. Follow notices at the pier during strong winds or rain. The crossing takes about 20–30 minutes; day visitors should plan their time on the island around the confirmed return ferry.

Swimming, tidal-flat foraging and island activities

Sea swimming and tidal-flat foraging depend on the tides, water conditions and areas open on site. Weather affects the color and visibility of the water as well as photography conditions. Check the forecast and confirm whether water activities are operating before you go.

Accommodation and food

Overwater cabins and land-based accommodation differ in facilities, prices and services. When booking, confirm the room details, meal service and nighttime transport for guests. Food choices on the island are limited and may be relatively expensive, so you can bring drinking water and snacks. Ask your accommodation provider or the island service point about luggage storage in advance.
