Reach Dangling only with a realistic vehicle plan
The road from Danba toward Dangling is long and rough in sections. A high-clearance vehicle and patient driver make a real difference.
Tip:Fuel up in Danba before entering remote roads.

Sleep in Dangling or start very early
Hulu Lake is the standard first target, but it still requires a long high-altitude day unless using a local motorbike for part of the route.
Tip:Expect basic rooms, simple meals, and limited heating rather than hotel-style comfort.

Pick one lake route by fitness
Most visitors should choose Hulu Lake. Zhuoyongcuo and Jiayilacuo require more distance, route confidence, and altitude tolerance.
Tip:Do not chase all lakes as a first-time hiker.

Signal can fail, mobile payment may not work, and supplies are limited. Bring enough cash for motorbikes, meals, lodging, and emergencies.

The route reaches around 4,200-4,300 m near the lakes. Descend early if headache, nausea, or weather develops.
Tip:Do not continue upward just for photos if the group is tired or the weather is closing in.
