How to Visit
1

Book admission and check the current transport notice

The old pricing model listed a required scenic bus and optional electric cart. The current rectification notice pauses those transport fees, but the buses and carts still matter for the route.

Tip:When budgeting, use the May 29, 2026 transport-fee suspension instead of older guide prices.
2

Sleep in Shangri-La Town before entering

The town is lower than Yading Village and has more food and hotels. It is the safer base for most first-time overseas travelers.

Tip:Flying directly to Daocheng Yading Airport increases altitude stress for some visitors.
3

Choose long route or short route by body condition

The long route runs toward Luorong Pasture, Milk Lake, and Five-Color Lake and is physically demanding. The short route to Pearl Lake is easier.

Tip:Even fit travelers can struggle here because the route is high and the return is long.
4

Start early and protect the descent time

Enter early if doing the long route. Turn around before weather, fatigue, or altitude symptoms make the return difficult.

Tip:If you miss the late return transport, getting back to the visitor center can become difficult and expensive.
5

Skip the long route if symptoms appear

Headache, nausea, heavy breath, or unstable walking should end the climb. Use the short route or rest instead.

Tip:Do not treat the Milk Lake and Five-Color Lake route as a normal city hike.
Highlights
  • Major high-altitude scenic area with the three sacred snow mountains
  • Long route to Luorong Pasture, Milk Lake, and Five-Color Lake
  • Short route to Pearl Lake for lower-effort scenery
  • Current 2026 transport-fee suspension changes budgeting
  • Best treated as a dedicated route, not a casual side stop
Insider Tips

Do not fly in and do the long route immediately unless you already tolerate high altitude well.

Bring real food, warm layers, rain protection, and sun protection.

Horses on the long route, if operating, are limited and not a guarantee.

Stay outside the park if you want better sleep and lower altitude.

If the weather is poor, consider the short route and save energy.
