How to Visit
1

Stop only if the weather is clear

Honghaizi depends on snow-mountain reflections and open sky. Fog or rain can make the stop weak.

Tip:Skip it if the sky is covered and you still need to reach Xinduqiao, Tagong, or Kangding before dark.
2

Pay the local fee and keep the visit short

After paying the local cleanup/access fee, park close to the lake where directed and walk slowly near the shore.

Tip:Do not drive onto fragile lakeside ground.
3

Watch altitude and wind

The lake is around 4,200 m. Take photos, enjoy the view, and leave before cold, wind, or symptoms become a problem.

Tip:Children and older travelers should limit time outside the car.
Highlights
  • Short highland-lake stop on a Western Sichuan road route
  • Snow-mountain reflection potential in clear weather
  • Useful add-on between Kangding, Jiagenba, and Xinduqiao plans
  • Low time commitment compared with major scenic parks
Insider Tips

Skip it in bad weather; the main view will not appear.

Bring oxygen and glucose if your group is altitude-sensitive.

Keep warm clothing accessible in the car.

Do not run or jump near the lake for photos.

Leave no trash around the shore.
