How to Visit
1

Start from Xinduqiao with enough daylight

Navigate via Yuzixi Village or the starry-sky camp route, but expect the final section to be gravel or dirt road.

Tip:A high-clearance car or local driver is safer than a low sedan.
2

Arrive before sunset, not at sunset

Reach the top at least one hour before the light you want. Parking, weather, and crowds can all slow the final approach.

Tip:If clouds cover Gongga or Yala, the sunset platform may still be crowded but the main view will be weak.
3

Keep movement light at 4,200 m

Choose one viewing area, take photos, and stay warm. Do not run between props, swings, and prayer-flag areas.

Tip:If headache or nausea appears, get back in the car and descend instead of staying for more photos.
4

Plan the descent before it gets too late

After sunset, the road becomes colder, darker, and more congested. Leave with your driver before everyone tries to descend at once if possible.

Tip:Carry cash because signal and mobile payment can be unreliable.
Highlights
  • High viewpoint for Gongga, Yala, and surrounding snow mountains
  • Strong sunset and starry-sky potential in clear weather
  • Popular add-on from Xinduqiao
  • Short visit with high impact when conditions are right
Insider Tips

Do not go if the weather forecast shows thick cloud or snow-road risk.

Bring a down jacket, hat, gloves, and wind protection for sunset.

A local transfer can be better than driving your own low-clearance car.

Keep expectations realistic; road discomfort and altitude are part of the visit.

Take all trash back down.
