Hubei Provincial Museum (湖北省博物馆) is at No. 160, Donghu Road, Wuchang District. Individuals and groups currently enter through the South Gate. The North Gate mainly serves as the visitor exit and large-luggage storage area. From Exit A of Hubei Provincial Museum / Hubei Daily Station (省博湖北日报站), it is about a 3-minute walk to the museum; follow the day's visitor-flow directions to the actual open entrance.
Admission is free, but you need an advance real-name reservation, normally made five days before your visit through the official “Hubei Provincial Museum” WeChat account. Reservation, identification checks, and entrance routing may change. Passport visitors should confirm the day's identification and entry requirements before setting out.
Opening hours and visit length
Normal hours are Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–17:00, with entry ending at 16:00; Monday is closed. Summer or public-holiday hours may be extended, so follow the current notice.
The quick route takes about 1–1.5 hours and focuses on the Sword of Goujian and Marquis Yi of Zeng galleries. The highlights route takes about 3 hours and adds Treasures of Prince Liangzhuang (梁庄王珍藏), Chu-culture displays in the North Hall, and the ceramics gallery. Chime performances and VR have their own ticketing and queue time.

Three priorities in the South Hall
On the second floor of the South Hall, visit the Sword of Goujian gallery first and look for the dark patterning on the blade. The first-floor Marquis Yi of Zeng gallery has the chime bells and Zun-and-Pan vessel set (尊盘). The third-floor Treasures of Prince Liangzhuang (梁庄王珍藏) display focuses on gold and jade objects from a Ming imperial prince's tomb and suits visitors interested in archaeology, craftsmanship, and Ming history.
The Marquis Yi chime bells are a major object display and may also be presented in a separately ticketed performance. Side lighting on the Sword of Goujian case can help reveal the blade's texture. The area in front of the bells or near the circular screen works for photos of the architecture and display environment; follow the museum's photography rules.
The North Hall and Chu culture
On the second floor of the North Hall, Chuguo Babainian (楚国八百年) and Jimu Chutian (极目楚天) add regional history and Chu culture after the South Hall objects. The third-floor ceramics display makes a natural North Hall finish. The two halls are connected by a third-floor corridor, and the route may change according to the day's directions.
Visitors interested in historic objects, Chu culture, or a systematic view of Jingchu history can allow 3 hours. On a first or shorter visit, start with the Sword of Goujian, the Marquis Yi gallery, and the chime bells, then choose a North Hall display if time remains.

Quick route: South Gate in, about 1–1.5 hours
Enter through the South Gate and follow the museum directions to the South Hall. Go first to the second-floor Sword of Goujian gallery, then down to the first-floor Marquis Yi of Zeng gallery for the chime bells and Zun-and-Pan vessel set (尊盘). Leave according to the signs after checking the queue at the Sword of Goujian gallery.
If the morning crowd is heavy, consider the Sword of Goujian gallery after about 15:00, but check the 16:00 entry cutoff first. The chime performance requires a separate ticket; handle its session through the day's mini-program or on-site ticket counter.
Highlights route: South and North Halls, about 3 hours
Enter through the South Gate and begin in the South Hall. Follow second-floor Sword of Goujian → first-floor Marquis Yi of Zeng → third-floor Treasures of Prince Liangzhuang (梁庄王珍藏), then use the third-floor corridor to continue to the North Hall's second-floor Chuguo Babainian (楚国八百年) and Jimu Chutian (极目楚天). Finish with the third-floor ceramics display and leave through the North Gate exit according to the museum directions.
The route moves from key objects to historical displays, regional culture, and ceramics. Walking and queues between galleries take time. A paid guide currently costs about CNY 50 per person for 90 minutes; reserve it after entry on the day, and follow staff instructions for the guide route and queue arrangements.

Metro and bus
Take Line 8 to Hubei Provincial Museum / Hubei Daily Station (省博湖北日报站), Exit A, and walk about 3 minutes to the museum. From there, follow the day's visitor-flow directions to the South Gate. Individuals and groups currently enter through the South Gate; the North Gate mainly serves as the visitor exit and large-luggage storage area.
Buses 14, 108, and 402 stop at “Donghu Road Hubei Provincial Museum.” Use Hubei Provincial Museum and the South Gate as the entry target, then read the day's entrance and queue directions before going in.
Driving and nearby stops
Parking nearby is limited, so check spaces and arrangements before driving. Public transport is more practical for a reserved visit. Use signals when walking and crossing Donghu Road, and keep vehicles away from the museum entrance and road space.
The South and North Gates of Hubei Provincial Museum are currently about a 10-minute walk from East Lake Tingtao. Xingyin Pavilion and Bitan Guanyu can extend the lakeside route. Hubei Museum of Art is across the street and can be added if it is open that day.
Know before you go
Queues, guides, and extra-ticket activities
The Sword of Goujian gallery often has the greatest queue pressure. Go there after opening or check the crowd after about 15:00. Free volunteer explanations may have fixed meeting points and routes. Paid guides follow the day's entry arrangements and do not guarantee that you can skip the queue.
The chime-bell performance currently requires a separate ticket of about CNY 50, and popular sessions may sell out quickly. VR may also have a long wait. After entering, read the mini-program or ticket-counter information before adding a performance or interactive activity.
Identification, photography, and seasonal hours
Reservation, identification, and photography rules follow the museum's same-day notice. Passport visitors should carry valid identification and confirm the real-name reservation and checking process in advance. Do not rely on a photo of an electronic ID as a substitute for a reliable entry document.
Most of the visit is indoors, but the third-floor corridor and movement between the South and North Halls add distance. Summer or public-holiday extensions follow the current notice. Closure days and the entry cutoff directly affect the route; if you have also reserved East Lake Tingtao, set the next stop according to the actual museum exit time.
