Choose an entrance first
Hankou Riverfront Park (汉口江滩) is at No. 1, Jiangtan Avenue, Jiang'an District. It runs in several sections along the river, with different entrances and walking ranges. Jianghan Gate is near Jianghan Customs, Huangpu Gate is near the Guanlu Boardwalk (观芦栈道) and Yangtze River Second Bridge, and Sanyang Square sits in the central riverfront for river views and the light show.
The public riverfront is currently free and open all day, while the Yangtze River Crossing Museum and other internal venues keep their own daytime hours. Choose the entrance according to whether you want buildings, reeds, or night views, then decide whether to cross into another section.
Time and walking
The quick Jianghan Gate route to Jianghan Customs and the Flood-Control Monument takes about 1–1.5 hours. The river route from Jianghan Gate to Sanyang Square takes about 2–3 hours, and Huangpu Gate to the Guanlu Boardwalk (观芦栈道) takes about 1–2 hours. The park extends for several kilometres, so walking through multiple sections adds significant distance.
From about November to January, Huangpu Gate and the Guanlu Boardwalk (观芦栈道) are the better seasonal choice. For the Yangtze light show, use Sanyang Square; it usually starts around 19:30 in summer. Season, weather, and same-day events can change the viewing conditions, so confirm before leaving.

Historic buildings and river views
Jianghan Customs building is the main architectural sight near Jianghan Gate, and its hourly chime may become part of a riverside walk. The Flood-Control Monument follows naturally after Jianghan Customs. For old buildings and river views, enter at Jianghan Gate and walk north along the riverside path.
Sanyang Square has open views of the Yangtze light show and the Wuchang skyline and works well for sunset. Huangpu Gate's Tenglang (藤廊) can frame the Yangtze River Second Bridge. This entrance is also better for autumn/winter reeds and bridge photography.
Reeds, walks, and photography
The reeds along the Guanlu Boardwalk (观芦栈道) are mainly an autumn/winter sight, usually appearing from about November to January. Confirm the plant condition at other times. Jianghan Customs, Sanyang Square, and Tenglang (藤廊) suit different subjects: historic buildings, lights, and bridge views.
Hankou Riverfront Park suits visitors interested in historic buildings, night photography, riverside walks, or Wuhan's seasonal changes. For an easy visit, choose one entrance and one stretch of path. For a longer route, add Jianghan Road or Li Huangpi Road to the same day.

Jianghan Gate short route: about 1–1.5 hours
Enter at Jianghan Gate and see Jianghan Customs building first. Continue north along the riverside path to the Flood-Control Monument, then return the way you came. Jianghan Gate is also next to Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street, so the commercial area and riverfront can be consecutive stops.
If you also want to enter the Yangtze River Crossing Museum, check its opening hours for the day before adding the indoor visit. The public area can be entered all day, but the museum and other internal venues do not share the park's all-day access.
Sanyang Square night-view route: about 2–3 hours
Enter at Jianghan Gate and walk along the river toward Sanyang Square, passing river views and historic buildings. Wait near Sanyang Square for sunset and the Yangtze light show, then leave through Sanyang Road or an exit indicated on site. The summer light show usually starts around 19:30.
Crowds concentrate at Sanyang Square on weekend and holiday evenings, so arrive early. The light-show time changes with the season and the day's arrangements. If you do not want to wait, eat first around Jianghan Road or Li Huangpi Road and enter the riverfront according to the evening schedule.
Huangpu Gate seasonal route: about 1–2 hours
From about November to January, enter at Huangpu Gate and go straight to the Guanlu Boardwalk (观芦栈道). See the reed marsh first, then look for views of the Yangtze River Second Bridge along the river. Tenglang (藤廊) can frame the bridge; leave through the original entrance or an exit indicated on site.
This route focuses on a seasonal landscape and stays between Huangpu Gate and the Guanlu Boardwalk (观芦栈道). Reed condition, boardwalk access, and weather affect the visit. If the boardwalk is unsuitable that day, use Sanyang Square or Jianghan Gate for river views instead.
Get there
Metro and entrances
Take Line 2 or 6 to Jianghan Road Station (江汉路站), Exit C, and walk about 8 minutes to Jianghan Gate. Take Line 1 to Sanyang Road Station (三阳路站) for the area near Sanyang Square, or get off at Huangpu Road Station (黄浦路站) for Huangpu Gate. The three stations serve different sections of the riverfront.
Navigate directly to Jianghan Gate, Sanyang Square, or Huangpu Gate, then use the route for that section. If you are taking the ferry from Wuhan Pass Ferry Terminal to Zhonghua Road Ferry Terminal, check the fare and sailing time before crossing, then decide whether to add a Wuchang-side stop.
Walking and parking
Jianghan Gate, Sanyang Square, and Huangpu Gate are far apart. Estimate the walk from your chosen entrance to the next section. Wear comfortable shoes, bring sun and insect protection in summer, and use lit paths at night.
Parking nearby is tight on weekends and public holidays, so check same-day arrangements before driving. Public transport suits a one-way route between Jianghan Gate, Sanyang Square, and Huangpu Gate. Do not stop in a riverfront entrance or along the riverside road.

Timing, lights, and reed season
The public riverfront is currently open all day, but the light show, reed viewing, and internal museums each have their own conditions. Light-show timing changes with the season, reeds usually appear in autumn and winter, and the Yangtze River Crossing Museum follows daytime opening hours.
Before photographing Jianghan Customs tower, the light show, or the reeds, confirm that the relevant sight or activity is available that day. Hourly chimes, a light show that usually starts around 19:30 in summer, and the Guanlu Boardwalk (观芦栈道) are approximate seasonal or operating details rather than fixed performances.
Riverside weather and crowds
The riverfront is strongly exposed to summer sun and insects, so bring sun protection and insect repellent. Crowds are dense during night shows, so keep belongings close and stay on the paths. Follow barrier and waterside notices, and do not enter closed or slippery areas.
Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street connects near Jianghan Gate, and Li Huangpi Road can continue after the riverfront. Water Tower Food Street and Jiqing Street work for meals. Food and shop hours change independently, so choose according to what is open that day.
